Holding people accountable doesn’t always have to look like conflict. Sometimes it takes going into the conversation with a willingness to understand their why while still holding firm on your boundaries. I can understand why you do the things you do while still expecting you to do better.

I never meant to weaponize my job. But it is nice to watch the realization melt the smirk off of a bigots face when they try to say bigoted stuff under the guise of a joke and I respond with “well actually I’m a social worker and this is what we see on the job every day.” A wins a win I guess.

As a helper - the hardest thing I’ve had to learn is the difference between empowerment and enablement We do so much more good when we support people in identifying their own solutions than we do just fixing things. Empowering people shows them that they are creative, resourceful, and whole.

A lot of folks are giving up in advance. Capitulating before a single skirmish. Well, not this old warrior. I’ve seen much worse from the U.S. government in my day. I’m concerned for our country, but not a bit scared of these miscreants. I’m ready to do my part. Who’s with me?
