Come and try out our new cargo bike courtesy of the SmartGo bike share scheme!

I got to try out the new SmartGo cargo bike share scheme today at Fumbally Exchange. The cargo bike is surprisingly easy to ride - it balances pretty much like a standard bike and once you get used to turning at the corners it's easy to handle.

The bike is an electric-assist two-wheeler by BERGAMONT Fahrrad Vertrieb GmbH which can take passengers or goods in the large cargo box. It has automatic gears and I managed to hit 30km/h on Cork Street but the electric-assist cuts out at 25km/h.

If you'd like to try it you can download the app at https://smartgo.ie/ and make a booking. This one is hosted at Fumbally Exchange's Blackpitts HQ in Dublin 8 and there are others at The Bike Hub in Dún Laoghaire and at Beacon South Quarter.

It's a great initiative to provide people with an alternative to the private car when you have stuff to move about and I hope we start to see more of them around the city!"

It was lovely to be greeted by this beautiful sunflower this morning as we arrived at Fumbally Exchange - it struggled to bloom in challenging conditions but now that it has it is shining brightly! (Not saying this is a metaphor for the Fumbally Exchange or anything like that 😉 )
