Maker, breaker, retro gamer. Sometimes clever, sometimes not so much.

Oooo. We're fresh out the jiffy bag, so bit preliminary, but it's recognised it straight away. I think that's given me 48 MIDI channels. 😮

Do you remember a time before microswitches? Simpler days when the mildest hint of frustration would cleave your stick in two. When up and left were almost the same thing. When tactile feedback felt like sticking your finger in a blancmange. It's time to un-game.

OK, so the evri chat bot is a fkn twat. But my first go with Claude is paying off. It's currently analysing my work software to circumvent the shit interface and write directly to the database with natural language. That's an actual useful thing .

So the trick is to be confident about not needing any inverse playing card symbols and make your own chrdata. The screen code then just points one by one to the letters you made. Downside: it limits the words you can write without doing the whole alphabet and curves are difficult in hex.

oooo. letters. and some less explainable stripes. and no numbers. that's with chrdata copied to $0800. but that's also supposed to be the screen memory so dunno how that works 🤷 🤷 🤷

The tag list got deleted when Texas went rogue and kicked BsoN off bluesky, but I still receive muttering from the dark side. Happy Shmup Friday.

Juno 1st

Having spent the entire evening with (no jk) 25 browser tabs open and the programmers reference guide open on 4 pages at once , I can confirm the C64 is very complicated .

I... I... I... I've done it! 😮😍😮😍😮😍 I've figured out how to boot my program as an Ultimax cart, and that's shoved the address out the way of the IO ports and I've got all three carts working. Haven't quite figured out where it's looking for it's character set (obviously?) but that's small fry now.

The mighty spectrum wins again. Stacking three carts in the 64 boots, but it's not talking to the MIDI. Probably investigatable, but a project fork for laterz....

Yay. Three expansion cards in the speccy. Actually that's baby steps, it'll take 5 easily Three expansions in the c64 and we haz hardware conflicts already This photo demonstrates that the 64 has booted, but a better demonstration would be if I could mix photos and video like the good old days. Whistfull sigh.

In just a single day I've unlocked my PayPal account, cancelled sky TV, and got some similar computer-says-no shit sorted at work, all with hardly any fuss or complication. That's going in the posativity bank, so I start tomorrow in credit.

Asshole. Another annoying aspect to this is why with their integrated scanned and tracked AI assisted logistics system do *I* have to put the wasted time and effort into pointing out something has gone wrong. Stuck / lost parcels should flag themselves immediately.

Evri loose / break / steal another parcel then hide behind their circular bot

There we go that's polyphonic restored. And with the buffer in place I don't need to be obsessed with speed any more, so I can add cool things like rotating which order it looks for an empty voice: 1-2-3 2-3-1 3-1-2 Which gives the sustain an opportunity to ring on a bit.
