I caught the prisoner’s stare and chuckled, “You’ll break soon, they always do.” The visual contact struck me with something warm and pure, sparking the antithesis of my soul. My laughter died, and I pulled my stare away from him, heat creeping up my neck.

The feeling disappeared as quickly as it came. But even after I’d shut my captee away in solitude, a muted tingle remained in my chest. One I couldn’t ignore, no matter how hard I tried.

The Pitch
Stetson was built for survival. After two decades of blending in with the straight boys and enduring his father's relentless prepper training, he's better prepared than most when the ENVI-24 pandemic becomes the zombie apocalypse in a matter of months. Stetson saves the only other survivor at his parents bunker settlement-a tween girl with a mouth full of braces, a judgy attitude, and a Bible. In a desperate search for community to help raise Harper, he makes his way to Queen City, killing zombies and dodging a zealous preacher bent on collecting women and children for his compound.
Meanwhile, the dentist ambles across Queen City with a group of zombies eager for fresh flesh.
While raiding his dentist's abandoned office for supplies, Stetson encounters Dove. She looks so good that she might just be a trap set by the Preacher, so Stotson zip-ties her first and asks questions later. All that might even be fine with Dove if it weren't for the fact that she's got Vivvi, her OG apocalypse protector back at their functioning community. If Stetson wants to join them and have help raising Harper, he'll have to prove his zombie-killing worth and move past that whole handcuffing thing. Oh, and also avoid getting exterminated as a threat to the Preacher's regime and the dentist's growing horde.
