Platonic Solids, five polyhedra with equally shaped faces meeting at all sides and points, have been known since ancient times. The cube (d6) and the icosahedron (d20) have been used in games of chance since at least Roman times. All cultures used dice. In modern wargaming primarily the d6 was used.
