The 6th gen console library was un-flippin- BELIEVABLE!! Classics on every system, SEGA still got it, PlayStation full of quality, Xbox bringing the fight and Nintendo back on form! But Iβm telling ya, based on the top 5 for each machine? Dreamcast is the best! π
Do you think Nintendo looks back at N64 as a mistake?! Hammered by PlayStation, small library, weak 3rd party support after SNESβ¦ But then! Established them in 3D tech, had timeless first-party classics, launched massive new IPs, made a profitβ¦ and yβknow, Goldeneye! Tricky!
Being a gamer in the 90s was bloody amazing but man I wish Iβd been in Japan! In 1990, Japan was playing Super Mario World on SNES while us suckers in Europe hadnβt even got SMB3 on NES!! Though tbf If Iβd have seen SMB3 in 1988 I think my head would have literally exploded!
Flashback still bloody blows me away! Itβs so damn classy! That animation is gorgeous, those cut scenes are so stylish, the musicβs subtle and coolβ¦ itβs just all so tight! And yeah it can be a fiddly bugger to play but once it clicks the action is flipping brilliant too!
Game Gear Shinobi is a flippin masterpiece! The actionβs nailed on, the challenge is just right, thereβs that dash of puzzle and strategy and that god damn Yuzo Koshiro soundtrack? Itβs bloody brilliant! And bonus? Look at that white Game Gear! I want THIS game on THAT model!
Street Fighter Alpha 2 is the best 2D fighter in the known universe β€οΈ That is my truth! Buuuuuuutβ¦.! Night Warriors had a good crack at it!
Having THESE two arcades at home is literally all I want in life! Daytona with the big screen and Hornet cab is probably the most exciting arcade ever made! While Virtua Cop 2 with the massive screen and those two chunky guns is light gun perfection!

Remember when Konami made bloody brilliant football games?! Sports titles donβt usually give me the feels but this was such a huge game for me! It was the bridge between me and my non-gamer friends - plus it was bloody brilliant when you came home hammered at 2am π
Toejam & Earl is the perfect example why retro games are awesome! Everything from characters to gameplay was unique for this game - nothing is copy and paste from a million other titles! And look at this manual! The time they took to make all this β€οΈ Thatβs proper game design!

Sonic on MD is such a BEAUTIFUL game! The unique aesthetic, the gorgeous art, the amazing music - β€οΈ But! Back then, I didnβt LOVE Sonic on MD until the 2nd game I played Game Gear Sonic first and I preferred it. I came back to the MD game after Sonic 2 and fell for it then!
Once you own multiple competing platforms (Game Boy/Game Gear; Genesis/SNES; PlayStation/N64; PS2/GCN/Xbox), you win the βwarβ. No need to choose one over the other. Thatβs why I wasnβt much of a βconsole warriorβ. Iβve been fortunate/privileged enough to buy the machines that I want to play on.

God, theyβre gorgeous!! I wanted to give both my Shenmues a playthrough this year but itβs August and Iβve not bloody started! I reckon I can still fit it in if I get going! (and quit my jobβ¦ and palm the kids off on the wifeβ¦ and sell the dogβ¦ π Worth it!!)

Goldeneye on N64 is THE game that made me love FPS! Yes Doom was ace, yes Quake was ace - but itβs the mayhem of multiplayer, trashing your mates, squinting at your tiny quarter of the telly to headshot a camping little punkβ¦ β¦ itβs those that made me fall in love!
Ghost Squad on Wii has a special place in my heart! When the Wii first came out, it was a bit of a sideshow for me - the gf got it for Wii Fit, I had Zelda, thatβs about itβ¦ But a few years later I started collecting its MANY brilliant games - and Ghost Squad was the first!
Quackshot is WAY better than I thought back in the day! I dismissed it at the time as a bit basic - but when I played it properly years later it looks good, plays great and that brilliant sprinkling of exploration lifts it right up! Cracking game!
Ooh I do like an SP!! Especially with that tasty screen! There are some cracking games on this that I missed first time around so picked one up a few weeks back Now Iβm practising my SP-owners cool pose βFeel free to stare, ladies!β

Two times SEGA Saturn had the best hardware in the world! Nights + 3D Control Pad is both an essential and beautiful combo! Nights is perfect with this pad (and a bit bobbins without it!) And the MK2 Control Pad is THE way to play SF Alpha 2 - and any Capcom fighter in fact!
I salute anyone who could play Crazy Taxi on a stand-up NAOMI cab!! Our local arcade had this one and I played it after getting decent on DC - I could barely pull off any moves!! You do see em with a seat - I think official?! - but Iβve never found one in the wild!
