While I had the camera on, I felt like taking five minutes to talk about a "guilty pleasure" that's truly one of my favorite original PlayStation games of all time. (Thankfully, it hasn't landed on @rerez.net's Just Bad Games... yet.) Maybe I'll do more of these PlayStation Memories videos...

It's Video Games Monthly Box Day. (And it's Gibble's Potato Chips Day, something that's somehow saltier than yours truly.) Just gotta wait for the work day to be done. 25 minutes left, then the 30-minute commute.
This game is more than a quarter of a century old. It can be “beaten” in an hour or two. The visuals arguably don’t hold up in 2026. But… I will always love Street Sk8er for what it is: a fun arcade/on-rails skateboarding game with a kickass soundtrack,
I'd be embarrassed if I had to use that AI garbage instead of thinking for myself about how to write things or formulating processes for things. If my brain atrophies that much, or if I become too stupid, then smother me with a pillow. Generations of humanity did great things without AI.

I do recall seeing both trackball and button-tap variants for Boot Camp, as there were for Konami's other games of this type (Track & Field, Hyper Sports). I *rarely* played the trackball variants as the few times I did resulted in various injuries.
@ohfivepro.bsky.social · 9h agoNo, apparently trackball versions were a thing outside of Japan too No doubt many Brits in arcades across the land could be found 'wibbling their control balls'. A dying art in the Gamerz Repertoire these days😢

Boot Camp is coming home! HOLY COW. (Context: Combat School is known as Boot Camp here in the US. It was a regular play for me in my local mall arcade as a Track & Field / Hyper Sports player during the late 1980s. I adore this game and am very excited about this.)

There’s not much here that most people other than me will find interesting, but that’s okay. Perhaps the most notable arrival is Arcade Classics 4 for the OG Game Boy, which completed my little quadrilogy.
The thing about perusing digital sales is that I read user reviews to get some sense of whether games I missed and are now cheaper are worth taking fliers on. It’s helpful. If I see “Souls-like” in the reviews (like I’ve read for Darksiders III), I pass. Same with “stealth” (like Indiana Jones).
While I will certainly miss having platforms to share video game-related photos and words on, I'm good to return to hermit-dom and play my non-connected stuff that doesn't require verification or force you into surveillance.

Nintendo's eSlop is emblematic of a bigger problem, at least when it comes to digital marketplaces on consoles. An overabundance of garbage drowns out most games with any substance-- even some well-known IP get quickly shoved out of sight after a week or two. The act of "browsing" is discouraged.

It’s good to see that the Pro-Physical camp is in it purely for the right to sell their games. Nothing about the abhorrently sparse Switch 2’s data storage or the shitty decisions from third-party partners to put relatively small games on them that could easily fit on real Switch 2 cards.

This is incredibly disappointing. It also goes to show how aggressively that AI is being shoveled down everyone's throats, no matter the age. If PBS is doing it? All hope is pretty much lost.

As is often the case, a very good news/bad news thing. More backwards compatibility is, in my view, a *good* thing (though I know it irritates a number of other people). It makes the library larger. But expired license agreements for many games will keep them from making the trip over.

This is... coincidental. I bought one of these two games online over the weekend. The Namco/Genesis connection was pretty awesome. Not only did we get these, but we also got (multiple) sequels to Splatterhouse and Rolling Thunder, too.

Already noticed some AAA games from the last few years slipping in quality due to the attack on labourers by the wealthy class and uh... I think gamers need to know it's gonna keep deteriorating in small ways, not a big bang Games will still drop for a while, but they'll be quietly worse
Watched YouTube. Played video games. Yup. That’s how I like my weekends. Getting to the point in the year where I hate my job for about six weeks of so as the crunch of back-to-school department prep kicks my ass as everybody wants everything at once… so I am savoring these weekends.
