This is half remembered stuff but I read once that when the Goodies did the Funky Gibbon it was Bill Oddie, a fan of actual funk and soul, who said look this has to go as hard as possible, it can't *just* be us singing a silly song. RIP

#PPP96 Seeing Orbital at 10:27 and checked the full nominations playlist to find it is the longest track in the poll. Which is surely too short for the Long Song Klaxon?? Has the electorate forsaken the Long Song Klaxon?? What are the best Long Song Klaxon tracks from 96?

It's the mid-morning new music section on Rage on the ABC and 30 mins in and almost all the videos have had smoking in them. And @theguardian.com is asking why smoking is considered cool again. Thank goodness my teens hate smoking.

Thought about nominating Spring Heel Jack for #PPP96 but 64 Million Shades is perhaps their driest album. I appreciate it but never reach for it. For me earlier and later albums are a lot livelier.
