PROTECT THE NHS. SAVE LIVES. RIDE BIKES. Fewer cars not newer cars! A Moulton and Brompton riding linux-loving cyclist geek. Cos small wheeled bikes rock!

"Reform UK remains almost entirely a party of grievance. Rather than offering a vision of a more prosperous, productive, or communitarian Britain, it doubles down on punitive proposals." - Excoriating, and spot on.

Andy Burnham must be feeling rather relaxed as he packs up for his first summer holiday since becoming prime minister — while across the aisle, Nigel Farage has gone unusually quiet. New from @zoegrunewald.bsky.social

Nottingham - our centre is so polluted we'll have to introduce a ULEZ. Mandates low emissions taxis, upgrades their* buses to CNG & Euro VI, replaces city service vehicles with EV **. Result: no ULEZ needed. National Highways - let's ban those form of transport which don't pollute.

“It’s a rare chance for the kids in this neighbourhood to play outside together, in a space big enough to frolic and safe from traffic” More local authorities need to make this possible easily, by simplifying the application process and ensuring it’s always free. Streets should be spaces for play.

Leeds: The city closing down streets so children can play

In Leeds, streets are being temporarily closed to traffic so kids have more space to safely play - an initiative proving beneficial to both children and adults.

Ex-PM Starmer said, in response to Raise the Colours terrorising people, ‘I am supporter of flags’, ‘I’m very encouraging of flags. I think they’re patriotic and I think they’re a great symbol of our nation’ and his family had ‘got St George’s flag in our flat’ www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home...

Raise the Colours Oxfordshire organiser Ben Cullen head-butted a highways worker after police were called to McDonalds in Benson where highways staff were attempting to remove flags from lamp posts;
Highways staff now wear unbranded PPE, work in unbranded vehicles, wear face coverings to hide their identity, and do not travel alone for fear of attacks;
Highways staff working on streetlight maintenance, not flag removal, have been spat on and abused by RTC supporters;
Cullen and his partner Trudy Wells posted the office addresses and phone numbers of highways depots online, leading to comments suggesting “hanging council workers from those same lamp posts”;
RTC Oxfordshire fixed trackers to the vehicles used by highways staff, then used this to find out their home addresses – which have been published online, and repeated to staff with threatening messages;
Highways depots now have to remain locked at all times;
A highways contractor’s sponsorship of a children’s football club is being rethought after concerns that children could be targeted.

The campaign of harassment and intimidation Raise the Colours have undertaken against council staff, contractors, and members of the public as reported by the Clarion today is shocking if not surprising. Excellent reporting. oxfordclarion.uk/the-clarion-...

Brilliant letter from Stuart Thompson to Jeremy Clarkson about his comments that benefit claimants should write weekly thank you letters to tax payers detailing how they spend their benefits each week.

Earth is now warming faster than at any point in recorded geological history - around 10 times faster than the extreme warming event 56 million years ago and 20 times faster than at the end of the last ice age. We are almost certainly in a new extinction event.

So what action has the Burnham administration promised it would take to tackle the climate emergency. Oh that's right. Nothing apart from potentially more fossil fuel extraction, which will at least speed up the extinction process. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Land Rover also does a Discovery Metropolitan edition. The name suggests it's for use in cities. Because you never know how high the kerb / cyclist / pedestrian you need to mount might be. And because there must be no limit to the pointless environmental harm you inflict.

All residential streets should be like this with rationed parking by permit. Still he's gonna learn that it's possible not to rely on a car so much, and that 15 minute neighbourhoods are good. He should by a folding bike and make those 20 minutes 4.

In today’s episode of People Trying To Park A Car In Brighton And Hove, man forgets to renew his parking permit for the vehicle his partner uses for work and the school run, and now he’s in the doghouse.

Shops put security tags on almost everything too try and prevent thefts. What are filling stations doing? Seemingly bugger all except whining. Anpr checks before fuel sales, and pay first like unmanned supermarket stations do. No money, no fuel. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I was first aware of this doing geography in the 80s. Man, it was in a Calvin & Hobbes strip in ‘87. They sorted the Ozone Layer & Acid Rain at the same time; I thought we wd sort it. We’ve had decades and we’ve f*cked it.

Coward turned off replies. Claims he supports cycling if its legal. In what world is a cycling group doing 25mph illegal, but a driver doing 40 on same road is legal? The good lord is clearly not good at thinking. I'm happy to help him see which would hurt him more. Kinetic energy is also a mystery.
