Esse é o ponto central. A eletrificação via renováveis como tática de diminuição de emissões não pode ser a única tática. Temos que reduzir e recusar usos supérfluos, desnecessários, e aqueles que chegam para aumentar a exploração do trabalhador. E onde aumentamos oferta, que seja para bons usos.

Happy to announce that a new book chapter of mine has been published and it is available open access. As part of a book edited by Dena Freeman on the Global Left, I explore the problems behind articulating sovereignty in ways that mimic imperialists and ignore the planetary boundaries.

First page of article: Faulty State Sovereignty in the Polycrisis - Arguments for Considering ‘Ecological Sovereignty’ in Left Internationalism Sabrina Fernandes Introduction The debate over sovereignty has long been dominated by the frame of state and national sovereignty in a competitive capitalist world order. It is a notion mobilised by states, multilateral institutions and political powers to assert one’s autonomy, but also dominance. Inter-state competition for resources and to secure a territory and its borders is intertwined with the ebbs and flows of capital accumulation, so that, under capitalism, the sovereignty of a national state is hardly ever detached from the goal of advancing the interests of the national bourgeoisie, domestically and abroad. Because of this, ‘sovereignty’ is the direct object of imperialist conflict. Imperialism is understood as the geopolitical imposition of one state’s socio- economic interests over others, and is necessary to capitalism’s thirst for resources, cheap labour, territorial expansion and the creation of new markets, especially in times of crisis. The ubiquity of the imperialist threat dictates a rationale of sovereignty based on a game of hierarchies, where one must eat or be eaten.

War and capitalism do "degrowth by disaster". When we speak of the need for selective degrowth by design, just and ecological, it's because a 4-day work week is possible, sovereign access to renewables too, but we're trapped in dependency. Being this vulnerable is a choice of the system.
