Yay! Somewhere to put my cat pictures! Programmer at Strange Scaffold (currently). Technical Designer / Gameplay Engineer at Question (recently).
This was useful. I'm constantly disabling AI bullshit as I become aware of it, but this had some stuff I hadn't caught yet.
I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

Getting a form letter rejection email on a Sunday is so weird. Someone's combining the hustle of working the weekend with the idgaf of crushing someone's hopes with a cut & paste email. They're probably a really interesting person.

I don't know why this game about prosecuting Nazi war crimes has an interactable cat in the prosecutors' office, but I'm here for it. 😻
Very pleased with my joke, please give me the approval I crave. Also I know there are plenty of you out there who are just as guilty as I am.
"Verify your age" I have used floppy disks that were actually floppy.
"Verify your age" I had a slap bracelet that I wore until it fell apart.
Got asked about Wolfenstein, but it hurts to reminisce about it. I don't recognize anything in the shipped game from the time I was there. Everything got cut sooner or later, usually within a few months. One of the maps made it a full year and somebody bought it a birthday cake. Good times.
Tara disapproves of all the D&D that keeps interrupting her scritches.
My neighbor keeps chickens. I don't know where anyone got it in their head that roosters say "cock-a-doodle-doo." This one says "Uuuuuhhhh!" like a human escaping a thousand years of damnation by haunting the body of a chicken and trying to speak.
I have never had the same title twice in this industry, despite 6 of my roles being almost exactly the same job.
This. The best games I've made and the smoothest, fastest and least stressful development cycles I've been part of have all come from teams with a high degree of trust and usually that was developed by working together for years. It takes security and time to build trust and good teams.
my belief is that at the end of the day, great games are made by groups of people who have high trust with each other & can fluidly execute a shared vision. which is a small part of why these layoffs are so devastating- it's not just about jobs, it's about these "trust structures" being torn apart.
"Made from Midnight: Delirium" is now available from Poets in the Pines! This otherworldly collection of poetry and fiction features my flash story "The Other Side" about cosmic snails and carcinization and leaving the real world behind for something better.

1) Yes. I feel for anyone trying to break in right now, but mad respect. 2) People who come from money will have the resources and stability to try for longer. I worry that this is going to disproportionately filter out anyone from a disadvantaged background, even worse than it already was.
All I have to say is I have mad respect for anyone chasing their dreams in the games industry right now. Yes, things are rough, but understanding the challenges and persisting anyway is badass. Don't let anyone tell you "don't" if this is what you really want. Keep going.
Upstairs kitty has opinions about her mortal enemy having his turn as the basement kitty.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw this and thought somebody made a relaxing background noise video of the reflecting pool meme.
I'm starting to spend serious time getting the Prototype and Pitch info for Moonstone out to folks. If you're scouting for projects, I would love to hear from you! We're building this for SteamDeck and Consoles, and have some very cool surprises in store! #IndieGame #GameDev
