We need to talk about bot slop. At the end of summer I got an email from a recent grad of our BSc Physics. He'd "written" a theory paper about Higgs physics and wanted me to review it. Spoiler alert, he hadn't written or calculated anything. A bot had done it all. 20 pages of hot garbage.
This week's lost tale is "Ghosts I Have Met" by M. P. Dare, an obscure weird fiction writer and ghost hunter, whose sad life is almost more interesting than his fiction. deepcuts.blog/2026/10/10/l...
Lost Tale: “Ghosts I Have Met” (1961) by M. P. Dare
One summer between semesters at university, I visited some family in Portland, Oregon for a couple of weeks. There was a small hole-in-the-wall bookstore, the name long forgotten, and no longer the…

I reacted very normally to this one
Some awesome original artwork of the Hex Girls from the picture book adaptation of "Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost" (more specifically, the alternate adaptation, "Scooby-Doo and the Hex Files") from 1999! Artist is unknown, but likely one of the movie's artists/crew members! #ScoobyDoo #HexGirls

this is absolutely dire horses, and more evidence to me that Must Read is running Analog, Asimov's, and F&SF as IP lobster traps. I was glad to be at Analog's 90th anniversary a few years ago, but at this rate MRM will hollow it out to an Edgar suit before it hits 100
To follow-up — I just read @donatoarts.bsky.social's Facebook write-up, the details of which are extremely depressing. I'm sharing the link here, because it appears he's left it unlocked in order to spread the word and warn other professionals. This saddens me. www.facebook.com/donato.gianc...
I like seeing the dev of the SNES core on the Pocket actually telling one of these dudes off. Holy shit.
A good fresh Star Trek take on those fake isekai title jokes
I was binge watching The Real Ghostbusters cartoon today on Tubi and ended up drawing fanart. I don’t know if this is going to be finished or not.
"Stop showing me bad takes from Twitter" also includes less toxic stuff like the ways accounts on there with names like FilmBuzz or Culture Crave or whatever talk about Marvel movies
It's October, what if I made everyone mad so it was like I was in a horror movie? www.calliope.prof/dark_souls_v...
The Blind Leading the Blinded: On Dark Souls and Elden Ring
I am finally trying to get my words around my experiences in a variety of Fromsoft titles, as well as titles from other developers in the same space

@firefox.com Wow, I love how the latest firefox update looks like shit, broke every extension I use, and threw nearly 200 active tabs into the void with absolutely no option to recover them. Also you keep hiding llm horseshit in weird places this is sarcasm, stop pushing your vibecoded bullshit
This year is the 35th anniversary of Timothy Zahn's HEIR TO THE EMPIRE, which touched off a wave of Star Wars novels that has never abated. So naturally I had to write about it.
