I was going through notes and found an email from KOEI-TECMO that sheds some light on the 1981 arcade game "PLEIADS". The idea for the game came from TECMO founder Akihito Kakihara but the programming was outsourced. They claim it has no connection to "Phoenix" but it could have the same programmer.

he also says that version died when the main programmer got in an accident & had to leave the project, & that if it had've been finished, they would've beaten DQ to FC now that I'm looking it up, Tanaka has mentioned this version in other JP interviews—it was co-dev'd by Bits Laboratory, apparently
