The dish scrubby fell into the garbage disposal (which had been having trouble draining) and I reached in and had to feel around to liberate the scrubby and when I pulled my hand out it was covered in dark brown slime. I didn't burn the entire place down and I would like my medal now, please.

I am thankful that the first online community I was invested in (proud former member of the Offbeat Empire) was committed to this mindset. I grew up in an online space where a many people were making weird life choices, and we all had to work on not seeing others choices as a referendum on our own.

It's okay to not like things

DEAD TEENAGERS #5 out now!!!@judedoyle.bsky.social · 5d ago

People on the Internet know that they can like something and other people can... just not like it, right? Doesn't say anything about either party! Doesn't require a Tumblr fight or a 9,000-word manifesto! Just different people liking different things, all day long, as the Lord intended

My first sawtooth star. First time doing flying geese and it went okay! Everything was very trimmed and square and somehow in the final nine-square assembly I lost .25 of an inch on both sides, which is annoying. It does look very cute in these test fabrics, though!

A sawtooth star quilt block on a table. It's an 8 pointed star in a square block. The star is white with little red flowers and blue stems and stars and the background is a textured medium blue.

My apartment landlord fixed our back fence a year ago and got rid of the back gate. This adds a 20 min. walk to the bus stop and the rear street parking. So my neighbors kicked a couple of holes in the fence. Fixed. They were repaired today. Some hero immediately made another hole. I love them.

Maybe the hottest day of the year (so far) was not the best day to do a chore that is sensory hell for me and is also made much worse by being sweaty. But it needed doing, and it's done now, and I only gagged a couple of times. So, good job, me.

Tuesday was 15 years of being married to @glaiveguisarme.com (we would have celebrated, but things have Been Busy). We had a time-travelling costume wedding, made a flow-chart for seating, and had our first dance/sing-a-long to The Best of Times is Now from La Cage Aux Folles. There were no signs

Selfie of two smiling white women with brown hair. I am on the left, with heart shaped glasses and red lipstick, Larabella is on the right with crisp eyebrows, octagonal glasses, and mauve lipstick. We look very happy.

I am ill. My kid, a number-loving autist, asked me to assess my current health out of 100. I, a word-loving autist, wrote an essay to explain my response (65). She then created a survey with space for me to make notes for each question. This is all I have ever wanted. Final results 64-66.

I love summer evenings. I can hear two, possibly three parties happening in this apartment complex (one is a watch party, I assume, given all the shouting) as well as the evening animal chorus. The sun won't set for another 45 minutes.

I worked at Mervyn's in the kid's department. It was wild, they gave me 8 hours shifts and a full hour lunch. I also (briefly) worked in a different mall at Sears as a cashier, where I never got my 10 min. breaks, didn't get a mat to stand on, and they failed to pay me for a month. So, mixed bag.

I know this app is 38 years old but who else worked at the mall. I had jobs at Electronics Boutique, Recordtown, and waited tables at our anchor restaurant which was a Ground Round.

Went to the Everett Pride block party as a family. Weather was great, and there were so many local queer artists selling things. We came home loaded down with purchases (stickers, books, jewelry, art) and a lot of political pamphlets.

A white tweenaged girl in a rainbow sequined dress posing in front of a rainbow seagull cut out on a city street. She is squinting with pursed lips (like a model, perhaps?). Behind her is a partially obscured sign reading RETT PRIDE (the E V E is hidden) Wooden art hung above a window, showing a series of five geometric cats. The cats together (one orange, one light orange, one white, one light pink, and one fuschia) are the colors of the lesbian pride flag.

Okay, that took -forever-. I had a hard time getting myself motivated to sew all of these long chevrons. I think the effect is nice, though! I have to finish this soon though, I need this lightweight quilt for my bed for the summer!

A quilt in progress on carpet. The quilting is complete, which gives the quilt a ripplely texture. The quilt squares are hour glasses surrounded by borders, either a solid hour glass with a print border or the reverse. The quilt has narrow green sashing. The fabrics are solids in shades of teal and reproduction william morris botanical prints colored in teals, pinks, and purples.

I like the effect of the quilting on this blanket, but the process is very slow! Who did this to me? Oh, it was my own choice to make a full sized quilt with a lot of straight line quilting? That can't be right. Anyway, about 1/4 quilted.

Went out to a pride celebration in Marysville. It was small, but the people were excited to be there. Got to hear a lovely rendition of "I am what I am" which always makes me cry. It's nice to come home from that and then have everyone on here happy about basketball or the name coming down or both.

White girl in a rainbow dress covered in sequins waves a rainbow ribbon in front of a large sign on a lawn. The sign has a rainbow infinity sign and the word Neurodivergent. A selfie of a white woman (me) with big sunglasses covered in enamel flowers, wearing a black shirt covered in pink triangles (a reference to Act Up's Silence = Death campaign) and standing on a lawn in front of a large Bisexuality Pride flag.

After years and years of struggling with this, I have a stylist who lets me come with pre-washed hair, confirms what I want done, and then he cuts my hair in silence. I sit with my eyes closed and breathe deeply until we are done. If I am having a hard time, we take a break. I am so thankful.

An autistic woman is preparing herself for upwards of an hour and a half of awkward, unbroken eye contact with her own reflection in order to avoid the even more awkward hour and a half of small talk with her hairdresser, sources have revealed.

A quilt in progress laid over the side of a couch. It is partially quilted with diagonal lines which gives the fabric a crinkly texture.

Perhaps the warmest day of the year (so far!) was not a good time to try and pin my big quilt. All I managed to do was get sweaty and annoyed (and incidentally trim down my backing fabric). Oh well, I will try again, hopefully during a cooler time of the week.

Oh no! I am just trying not to -fail- my eye exam. Where failure is when the optometrist is annoyed with me because I keep saying that neither 1 nor 2 is better, and also I give multisentence responses about the extent to which I am guessing in case that's helpful. ...I usually "fail" my eye exam.

ashley fairbanks@ziibiing.com · 3mo ago

please remember if you have ADHD or autism and migraines: talk to your optometrist about your eye exam! get it done with your eyes dilated! learn to relax the muscles in your face! if you feel like you try to “win” your eye exam your prescription could be wrong!

Sometimes parenting means holding a funeral for your child's favorite thermometer. With speeches. And songs. She wore a black dress. And we put the broken thermometer in a box which now lives on top of the bookcase next to my mother's ashes. ... kids are wild, y'all.

My 11 y.o. kid (because she loves numbers) and I (because I desperately need a solvable problem) just spent 30 minutes calculating with pencil and paper the maximum possible score of a perfect Jeopardy game. So that's how -I- am doing. It's $566,400. (The current record is $131,127)
