Really recommend (and enjoyed!) this book. Possibly helpful for any leaders who need to gather colleagues to generate ideas, problem solve or otherwise think collectively. It has a section on creating a sense of ease 💜 so important - false urgency kills thought

Paul Whiteman of the NAHT: “[The Teacher Wellbeing Index] serves as a stark reminder of the scale of the task the new government faces when it comes to making teaching an attractive profession once again.”

Challenging pupil behaviour is getting worse, teachers warn, with over 80% reporting that it had a negative toll on their mental heath. @edsupportuk.bsky.social is calling for the govt to take action on staff retention & burnout, & raise awareness of suicide risk. www.tes.com/magazine/new...

The eighth Teacher Wellbeing Index is here. - pupil and parent behaviour is challenging - public services are not able to provide enough support - this affects teacher and staff morale, and ability to switch off at night We need a retention strategy that takes this picture seriously #edusky

Great to see this being acknowledged by Govt. We’ve long seen child poverty and under-funded CYP mental health and social services take a real emotional toll on school staff. Staff burnout or leave and CYP pay a high price. www.tes.com/magazine/new...

Phillipson: Pupil poverty comes at a ‘personal cost’ to school staff

Coping with the effects of societal failure means school staff are less able to focus on children’s academic outcomes, says education secretary Bridget Phillipson

This was a tough read today. I’m a Samaritans listening volunteer. I find it tough to field so many calls from people who’ve fallen through the cracks of public services. This needs to be a Govt. priority.

Kier Starmer’s speech didn’t reference education despite many references to public services. He’s not the world’s strongest orator but definitely most engaging when he lets authentic glimpses of frustration slip through.
