Jeepers it got cold fast outside here in Christchurch. At 1.30pm I was strolling around in a t-shirt and sunnies, and at 4.30pm I was shivering in the garden in a jumper and woolly scarf while showing an arborist which trees I want done away with.

My workplace expects people in my role to make extensive use of AI to speed up our output, and I've found this problem myself, including from me! I have to force myself to read and understand the output at every step, otherwise I can't ask intelligent questions later or understand the answers.

Whenever someone sends me AI-generated work, it always increases my workload at least 2x. However, the biggest problem is that they’re completely incapable of discussing their work as I try to make heads or tails of it, largely because they didn’t do the work in the first place.

What is it with bloody Ford Ranger drivers thinking they own the road? In this case, parking right across a cycleway, presumably so they can easily stroll to the rugby match happening in the park. Naturally I called parking enforcement immediately. Hope they get a ticket *and* their team loses.

I thought I'd put on some Glen Hansard in the background while I was reading a book. Got about four notes in to Falling Slowly and had to shut it off again. The loss is far too raw 😢

I found myself accidentally watching a whole episode of Monty Don on YouTube and was first of all surprised and pleased to learn that he is still around (he seems to have been doing gardening shows for a lifetime) and then inspired to sort my own garden out. (Just not right now because it's dark.)

Yippee I got paid today for work I did in June, which is my first income for 2026 so I also paid very little in tax, something that is always nice although I'll catch up soon and I am glad to support the country and those less fortunate through my taxes.
