Fantastic Prokaryotic Cell Biologists and where to find them! A truly lovely set of researchers, making huge progress and discoveries in their field. We hope you've all enjoyed the first 2 days, with plenty more to come. #ProkaryoticCellBio
Interested in joining our group in Oxford? We are looking for a PDRA with single particle Cryo-EM experience to help us figure out how sphingolipids are transported to the cell surface of Gram-negative bacteria. The deadline is 31st July. Informal enquires are welcome. Please share!

Congrats to @clarede-ath.bsky.social and @sujeetkumar.bsky.social (Ruiz lab) on their joint paper. We reveal that YdbL modulates the YdbH-YnbE periplasmic spanning bridge, implicated in lipid transport to the outer membrane. It came out while we were together at GRC journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/...
Last Friday I had the HUGE pleasure of visiting LS1 @erc.europa.eu grantees based at the University of Oxford and to give an info session on all the changes implemented in the 2026 WP. Thanks so much for the warm welcome @agwrobel.bsky.social, @georgiaisom.bsky.social and @achilleskap.bsky.social!
Jeff was such an amazing mentor to me (and many others) during my PhD, even though I wasn’t in his group. I wouldn’t be where I am today without him. He will indeed be missed.
We are saddened to hear of the death of former Officer of the Microbiology Society, Jeff Cole, who will be missed by so many across our community. We will post a full tribute shortly.
Last month, the Friends of the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter held a screening of Breaking the Mould - a BBC drama that portraits the world-changing research done at the Dunn School to develop penicillin. The screening was followed by an expert panel discussion including @georgiaisom.bsky.social.
PhD position available in our team to study how UPEC exploits metals to successfully colonise the host gut. Cool collaboration with @thecopperdoctor.bsky.social and @banzhaflab.bsky.social Please share and get in touch for more details
