Purely anecdotal but it seems like Mac users switching to Linux seem to face less friction on Linux than Windows users Though it's likely because Mac users are less likely to switch than Windows ones

There's people who switch to a new distro at the first hurdle on their current distro, claim their new distro is the end all be all of Linux distros and then within six months run into a problem and start the cycle again.

My biggest piece of advice to people switching to Linux is do some research before picking your first distro and learn the ins and outs of the distro. Distro hopping can be fun but hopping at the first hurdle on your distro means you'll never learn the distro and lead you into a vicious cycle.

Linux has (mostly) caught up to Windows in terms of usability and stuff. This should terrify Microsoft because the more user friendly and intercompatible Linux becomes, the harder it will become to justify forcing $120 of licensing fees and Windows specific hardware onto users per machine.

it would not shock me if Windows 12 becomes a Linux distro with Microsoft's own proprietary features on top. the OS is not the thing that makes Microsoft the bulk of their profit and the NT codebase is increasingly becoming a mess of spaghetti code

Linus has never changed his opinion on AI, he has said time and time again that AI is a developer tool that has great potential while telling developers they are responsible for their own code and has been against slop coding. And Microsoft has been on the Linux Foundation since 2016.

Reminder that Linus’ position on AI changing is almost definitely because the Linux Foundation is de facto owned by its “competitors,” incl Microsoft etc, all of whom have decided to bet the farm on a pivot to AI

In the hands of talented developers AI tools for coding have great potential and assuring these tools can be open source is crucial in preventing big tech from hoarding it. That said it should not ever do the heavy lifting which far too many people do not get that memo

The two biggest problems with AI in open source is first off allowing people with little to no programming experience to infest projects with slop code And second that it is a walking license dispute waiting to happen in particular to the GPL, GPL 4.0 must address this
