IF (and that’s a very big if) they had any actual UI/UX designers working on Pro, did they use Cow Chip Bingo to decide how this interface is supposed to work? Because it certainly smells like it.

We are constantly being told that we have to use AI and that it is amazing and makes our lives better, but the stupid plagiarism machine can’t even produce an accurate map? I have zero respect for anyone who thinks this technology is good. Clown shoe shit.

Please blow up the public comment (included below): BREAKING NEWS (7/15) — The administration wants to destroy Chaco Canyon without consulting Tribal Nations. It’s an irreplaceable historic & cultural site with 4,700 archeological sites that could be lost to the bulldozers of oil & gas development
I see ESRI now has an “AI Enhanced” support tool Great! Now I can just have a computer tell me my bug is not a bug at all but a feature, without needing to take up the time of one of their employees. But they’ll still use this as a reason to jack up the cost at the end of the year.
Some personal news: I'm doing a hard pivot to AI (Asskicking Idiots)
An annoying side effect of being part of IT is when we hire a GIS position, we get a lot of pure IT people not understanding what they are applying for. I don’t care if you can configure a switch, blindfolded, hands tied behind your back, in 30°f room. We don’t need you.
Instead of Artificial Intelligence (AI) we should call it Artificial Stupidity System (ASS)
Jonathan Ross is the man who shot and killed Renee Good.
Two ICE agents tracked down a woman *inside a polling place* yesterday. Why? They demanded that she take down an Instagram post in which she named Jonathan Ross as the man who shot & killed Renee Good (after the Star Tribune identified Ross). www.syracuse.com/news/2026/06...
We are finally expanding our office and adding another GIS Analyst position. If you know anyone interested in such a role, situated where the Chicagoland concrete gives way midwestern corn fields, feel free to send them our way. #gischat #gisjobs #gis www.kanecountyil.gov/Pages/employ...

Sovereignty and Open Source
Open source geospatial tools are good. I have been making some form of that argument for most of my career, especially on this blog. The mature projects are equal to or better than their proprietary alternatives. The communities that build and maintain them represent some of the best technical talent working in this space. None of that has been enough to reliably move the adoption conversations that matter.

I find it funny that ESRI likes to play up all the new features in AGOL. But they still cannot figure out how to keep me logged in like every other website can. Yeah that little Keep Me Logged-in checkbox doesn’t do a damn thing.
Let’s see on Monday morning how many people listened to me about switching over to our newest SDE database. I’m just sitting here killing all rights to all of the layers & tables. I know some people ignored our earlier emails and are going to be complaining that we shut down the server.
Milwaukee is pretty spectacular. And now you have a good excuse to visit! Submit a presentation proposal for GIS-Pro 2026 by March 23: thegpn.org/page/GIS-Pro...
Dear Census Bureau, Please stop telling my townships to contact me about their boundary changes. Because most decades, they don’t 🤬 change! The last (only) time we had a change was about 120 years ago. They don’t change! At least not so often you need to tell them to contact the county every year🙄
🎤 Call for Presenters: GIS-Pro 2026 | Milwaukee, WI Have a GIS project you’re proud of? A workflow that saved time (or sanity)? A lesson learned the hard way that others could learn from? 👉 Submit your proposal here: thegpn.org/page/GIS-Pro... 📅 Deadline: March 23, 2026
Geospatial tech really has become mainstream these last few years. 🤣 #gischat
Yesterday it was cows using tools, today its penguins using satellite imagery.
How many times do I need to tell people around here we do not certify any maps before it finally sinks in? We are not surveyors so per state statute cannot make any claims on accuracy. The last two employees left wondering between themselves who they can get to certify our maps since I refused. 🙄🤦♂️

I’m used to seeing phantom trains fade in & out of existence on my aerials, but not having any water big enough for anything other than a canoe in our county I have never seen boats get the ghosting effect from stitching mosaics together. Belmont Harbor, Chicago IL maps.app.goo.gl/FDLBVYY7yXYy...
I always love it when a village comes bitching that we do not show their new sub on our maps for 911 purposes when they still have not actually recorded the sub at with the county. How the hell are we supposed to put in a new road and addresses if we don’t know they exist? 🙄
Sent an email yesterday stating that I was bringing our internal ArcSDE database down over the weekend for maintenance. The external SDE won’t be affected & ALL external apps will still work This morning 2 replies asking if AGOL would still be available No understanding, just simple button pushers

If we put half as much resources into metadata and cataloging as we do into dumb AI stuff, we’d way better off in terms of the info/data ecosystem
Panel at #Crossref2025 wonders if metadata has an image problem. Bianca Kramer says the word metadata not used in the Barcelona Declaration. Mariángela Napoli thinks perception of metadata is something too technical. Kazuhiro Hayashi describes metadata as "the unsung hero". Time for a rebrand ;)
I don’t recall seeing this on the sessions listing for #ILGISA I guess this counts as an Emergency Service Hallway Session
Glad to be able to report a sighting of @bonnymcclain.com in the wild at the 2025 Illinois GIS Association meeting. #ILGISA So happy to finally meet you in person Bonny.

You’d think that a company that rakes in tens to thousands of dollars per customer and has had a web based system for about 15 years would have the ability to let users change their account name without having to create a new account then transfer everything over manually. Seems kinda cheap 🤔
