A very telling chart. Open Source funding has been frozen for the past four years, while everyone's needs for our shared commons infrastructure have continued to grow exponentially. Pay maintainers properly if you want your dependencies to stop feeling like a minefield.

Always love the emails that come in the start of each month that are a reminder of supporting various of our upstream dependencies (Non-exhaustive list). All OSS is standing on the shoulders of giants and we are happy to do our small part in being able to help others be able to continue.

I don't think tech at large understands how hard it is to be an open source maintainer right now. So many great folks are on the brink of burnout. Funding is drying out. We live in a security minefield. Companies think humans are disposable. If you're a maintainer, we care. You deserve the world.

I finally installed my own self-hosted instance of Gitea (about.gitea.com) and it's so good and so fast. I should have done this a long time ago. I really like Gitlab for a lot of reasons, but for 90% of my projects and especially solo work Gitea is fantastic.
