Wow check out this lovely paper, ice flow and deglacial reconstruction and -gold dust- new dates on ice retreat in central Ireland, a long term blank on the map

At last...new paper with Kathryn Adamson, @glaciologytim.bsky.social, Phil Hughes, and Derek Fabel and Delia Gheorgiu at @isotopesuk.bsky.social - thanks, everyone! 36Cl dates from the Irish Midlands, plus some geomorphology to complicate things. doi.org/10.1016/j.qu...

Large limestone boulder with a weathered surface and an ivy-covered tree on top. A figure wearing a red jacket is standing on the boulder for scale. The boulder is taller than she is.

Matthew Memoli, a middling researcher at NIH, criticized COVID vaccine mandates and DEI, and was chosen by Trump to dismantle NIH. Memoli becomes NIH’s principal deputy director and awards himself and close collaborator Jeffery Taubenberger up to $500 million for in-house vaccine research. Cool.

‘It’s All Cronyism Going Forward’

This is horrible. I don't even know what to say. Some of our most key polar data. "As a result, the level of services for affected products below will be reduced to Basic—meaning they will remain accessible but may not be actively maintained, updated, or fully supported." nsidc.org/data/user-re...

Effective May 5, 2025, NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) will decommission its snow and ice data products from the Coasts, Oceans, and Geophysics Science Division (COGS). As a result, the level of services for affected products below will be reduced to Basic—meaning they will remain accessible but may not be actively maintained, updated, or fully supported. This includes Sea Ice Index, Snow Data Assimilation System (SNODAS) Data Products, Glacier Photograph Collection, U.S. National Ice Center Arctic Sea Ice Charts and Climatologies in Gridded Format Gridded Monthly Sea Ice Extent and Concentration, 1850 Onward World Glacier Inventory. If you rely on these products in your work, research, education, or planning, we invite you to share your story at nsidc@nsidc.org. Your input can help us demonstrate the importance of these data sets and advocate for future support.

Last Tuesday, I was set to give a talk on 'climate change in the Northeast' at a retirement home but had to cancel due to hourly job threats. After nearly two weeks of overwhelming uncertainty, today it happened. I was fired from my dream of working at NOAA. I'm so sorry to everyone also affected.
