Superb aerial footage of Zanskar mountains (Ladakh, India)! 🤩 The accumulation area of the mighty Drang Drung glacier (largest gl. in Zanskar with ~70 km²) is visible at foreground 🧊 Nun-Kun massif (7,135 m) in the distance! 🏔️🏔️ Nanga Parbat (8,126 m) on the horizon! Via @Kyangs_Thang 🙏

The new glacier inventory for the Hindu Kush Himalaya maps over 63,700 glaciers, one of the planet’s largest freshwater reserves. It reveals that these glaciers are shrinking under accelerating climate stress.

Cryospheric geomorphology is amazing! 😍 Here is a massive and delicately carved Neoglacial moraine (Réou d'Arsine Gl.), the lower part of which has evolved into a magnificent rock glacier with concentric lobes 🧊🌊 The whole being heavily laden with snow, even on the steepest sections! ❄️

With emissions still rising 📈 and the catastrophic consequences 🔥 becoming ever clearer, geoengineering is getting ever more tempting 🧪 But a review has concluded that the main methods proposed to save polar ice 🧊 are not doable or won't work www.newscientist.com/article/2495...

Geoengineering is not going to save the poles from climate change

A review of the five main methods proposed for cooling down the poles or slowing the loss of ice concludes they are all wildly impractical, wouldn't work, or both

BEFORE/AFTER #Dharali disaster! 😱 June 13 / August 7 Incredible extent of destruction and sediment deposition on the fan. Precise cause of flood is still unknown. Some sources mentioned possible GLOF. Image: NRSC, Hyderabad Via @Upadhyay_Cavita

This is the collapsing terminus of Rhone #glacier yesterday - retreating out of its proglacial lake. Impressive changes going on during the heat wave! We measured almost 3 meters of ice melting over the last 4 weeks... This is 10 cm of ice layer removed every single day!!
