In February 1973, after 7.5 years (2,675 days) as a POW, Halyburton was freed during Operation Homecoming. His family received the overwhelming shock of a lifetime: the husband and father they had mourned for over seven years was actually alive. (cont) www.northcountrypublicradio.org/news/npr/116...

'Reflections on Captivity' tells story of Navy lieutenant assumed dead who survived as a POW

For a year and a half, Halyburton was listed as "killed in action" after being shot down over North Vietnam. But he was actually alive.

Halyburton spent months nursing Cherry's shattered arm, feeding and bathing him—never abdandoning him. Cherry provided vital leadership and emotional strength. Their deep bond became a legendary symbol of brotherhood described in James S. Hirsch's book 'Two Souls Indivisible'. (cont)

In reality, Halyburton survived the ejection only to be captured and sent to the infamous "Hanoi Hilton." (below) Hoping racial tension would break them, captors paired the White Southerner with Col. Fred Cherry, a severely injured Black Air Force pilot. The plan totally backfired.(cont)

Performative? Sure. But most people who use it are coming from a natural, native American English position. Also, "Y'all" has an important job in English. How else can we say things like, "Y'all, this guy is insane" to the many people we talk to?

Minor point but I really hate this performative “y’all” people do to try and appear more folksy. I don’t type in a Yorkshire accent and I did people would rightly tell me to shut up.

We are huge fans of the San Diego Zoo and often go walking there. We've strolled past the Maned Wolf dozens of times and haven't seen a thing. Yesterday, MAGIC! It was only out for a minute, but we were able to get a few pictures.

A gorgeous Maned Wolf at the San Diego Zoo! They look like a wolf and a fox had a love child who turned out to be a fashion model.A gorgeous Maned Wolf at the San Diego Zoo! They look like a wolf and a fox had a love child who turned out to be a fashion model.

They smell STRONGLY like cannabis.

“If you’re going to be a hero, be strong enough to be gentle.” Peter Cullen may not have known it, but the quiet strength that he imbued into Optimus Prime inspired me (and many others) to be a better man growing up. Thank you, Peter. ‘Til all are one.

I haven't had a meaningful raise in about 10 years. Most of the raises I get are around 3%, which is below the inflation rate. Every year when I get a raise, I'm excited that I'm not losing that much money. Because that's how fucked up all of this is. Rich people are gaining wealth at record rates.
