Woman on a bus (reading from an article): Have you ever discussed your fantasies with your partner? Her friend: Like the one where I’m in a cottage by the sea completely on my own with a book and a cup of tea?

One has to wonder whether Badenochs reticence to defenestrate a Tory candidate with a history of gross antisemitism and abuse is in part because of the precedent it would set in having to ditch many hundreds of candidates for routine Tory islamophobia.

Israel is burning the forests of Wadi al-Slouqi and Houla in South Lebanon. Not military targets. Forests, valleys, hills and entire ecosystems. This is not only an environmental crime. It is the deliberate erasure of a piece of Lebanon’s natural heritage. 💔😢💔😢🤬🇮🇱🤬🇮🇱♾️

Direct, full-time jobs opening Rosebank oilfield would create: 450 D, f-t jobs opening Jackdaw gasfield would create: 27 D, f-t jobs in UK's net-zero economy: 300,000 + 400,000 more on the way D, f-t jobs in the rest of the green economy: 600,000 Is that really the hill Burnham wants to die on?

My column on how capital becomes a death cult. Faced with a choice between profit and human life, the radical right chooses profit. Then it tries to persuade us that mass death is what we want. It's the new phase of climate denial: accept your fate, earthlings. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Murderous heat, an endangered food supply, decimated landscapes: embrace the Mediterranean life | George Monbiot

As climate disaster stares us in the face, the radical right says ‘Embrace the Mediterranean life’. Embrace death, more like it, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

For overseas folk - most of the pretty red boxes got removed, but lots came back as defibrilators, local community book swaps, places for notice boards, all sorts of things. There are still some serviceable phone boxes like this in tourist towns, but not many.

SCENE: A man runs panicking from a murder scene. He knows he is the murderer's next victim. He runs to a phone box to call the police and leave the clue that will catch his killer. He flings open the door -

Crop yields down, our countryside scorched and over 2800 people are dead due to this summer's heatwaves. Meanwhile fossil fuel giants are raking in record profits. We must end this rampant profiteering, and cut fossil fuels from our energy mix as soon as possible.

"Playful genius who poured petrol where others feared to tread." I know it's supposed to be a compliment, but.. where to start? Pouring petrol where it isn't meant to be? Not genius. Dangerously stupid. People afraid to tread? IDK, maybe that's 'cause some fuckwit poured a load of petrol there.

He mocked a trans person saying they couldn't know they were the wrong sex because they were blind. He compared trans identities to identifying as a dinosaur. He said of gays using lube “God's way of telling you that what you're about to do is unnatural and perverse.” Thats not wit, its just nasty

I am saddened by the tone of commentary in this place about my former BBC colleague. The level of vitriol seems more suited to the other place. I worked with Rod at the Today programme. He took no prisoners, but he was witty and personally capable of genuine warmth. My sympathy to his family.
