75 degrees today in San Francisco. Warmest day since August 2nd. For nearly 3 weeks, the daily high has been in the 60s!

The tropical activity in the Pacific is borderline outrageous.
I also just walked outside and got cold quickly! Bay breeze, very clear skies
A bit warmer than expected in the North Bay. But honestly, can you ask for a better weather day around the Bay Area than what we got today?
It sure is looking like a fantastic weekend of weather around the Bay Area!
A picture is indeed worth a 1000 words. The Pacific is just on fire with tropical activity. The rest of the world? Not so much. El Nino starts in the Pacific. The rest of the oceans (and the world) should take notice.
#Lala is now a major hurricane and the strongest storm in the Central Pacific basin so far this year. www.sfchronicle.com/weather/arti...
Hurricane Lala explodes into major hurricane, triggers warnings for Northwestern Hawaiian Islands
Hurricane Lala is the first major hurricane in the Central Pacific basin this year.

#Lala has the looks of a storm that's not going to stop intensifying tonight.
After battering the Hawaiian Islands over the weekend, Hurricane Lala underwent a sharp intensification Tuesday, strengthening into a borderline category 3 storm with sustained winds of 105 mph.
#Lala is on the verge of becoming a major hurricane out in the Central Pacific. It may make a run at category 4 status. NOAA researchers spread out across the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument will likely be evacuated in the coming days.
I've been having this conversation with friends and family members. But maybe it's time to say it out loud. This #ElNiño event will be one of the defining climate moments of our lives.
Looking ahead for sure, but Hawaii's threat doesn't end with #Lala. Our findings last month ringing true. Hawaii nearly 2.5 times more likely to see tropical storm/hurricane impacts leading into a very strong El Nino. www.sfchronicle.com/weather/arti...
Still some time for #Lala to strengthen as it approaches the Big Island. Kerry Emanuel's max wind potential product (mainly based on available energy from SSTs) gives the storm a hypothetical pathway to category 1 or low end category 2 status
Lala really looks to be on the verge of hurricane status now! Recon missions are done for the night. If NOAA upgrades overnight, it will have to be based on satellite data.
Tropical Storm Lala is looking much more organized. This will be a hurricane soon.
This is extremely frustrating to see. "Of the roughly 700 city workers who made over $450,000 in compensation and worked full-time last year, 72% worked in the police, sheriff or fire departments" www.sfchronicle.com/projects/202...

Tropical storm Lala is getting a lot of reconnisence attention this afternoon. Rightfully so. NOAA now expects the storm to reach category 1 strength by Saturday.
More aircraft recon scheduled for tomorrow for still the still unnamed storm. Meanwhile, the system to the east has officially reached tropical depression status. Scratching my head a bit
It's rather telling that both current recon missions into PT-01C are focused on the environment around the storm. The system is ready to pop, but the surrounding environment remains hostile.
Hawaii has not experienced a hurricane landfall since Category 4 Hurricane Iniki struck Kauai in September 1992. Soon to be named Lala may change that this weekend. www.sfchronicle.com/weather/arti...

July was the hottest month on record in the lower 48. And it was tied (July 2024) for the hottest July on record globally. Global ocean temps also set a new monthly all-time record. The world is roasting. But California? Not so much. www.sfchronicle.com/climate/arti...
July’s heat records piled up worldwide. California stood apart
The planet tied its hottest July on record and the oceans and Lower 48 set new heat records. California was a bit different.

A cool week in the Bay Area! And some smoke from the Timber Fire is making its way into the South Bay this morning.
Tuesday is a transition day for the region, as temperatures trend cooler.
In Boston for vacation, but watching the first real heat wave of the summer building for California. 110º+ in the mix. @edwardsanthonyb.bsky.social with good details here. www.sfchronicle.com/weather-fore...
Heat wave coming to California will have 2 dangerous peaks. Here’s a timeline
An extreme, long-duration California heat wave is expected to begin this week, bringing the state its hottest weather in at least two years, with no clear sign of when it might end.

#Genevive is the proverbial canary in a coal mine. This storm is making a run a Category 5 status. Thankfully, it will die in a few days with no threat to land. But if there was ever a sign showing that the Pacific Ocean is loaded with heat, this is it.
France and Spain are having an absolutely horrific summer. These images are stark reminders of how we got here.
Triple-digit heat is forecast across much of California next week, with temperatures above 110 degrees possible in the hottest spots.

New story this morning: A Chronicle analysis of historical hurricane data found Hawaii was nearly 2.5 times more likely to see a named tropical system pass close enough for impacts during summers preceding a strong El Niño. (🧵) @sfchronicle.com www.sfchronicle.com/weather/arti...
Hawaii is entering a dangerous stretch as a powerful El Niño builds
A warm Pacific and an impending strong El Niño could open the storm track to Hawaii, especially over the next few months.

Keep an eye on hurricane #Fausto. Surprisingly high confidence in a storm track aimed directly at Hawaii early next week. Fausto will likely be a borderline tropical storm by that point, but will still pose a danger to the islands.
Post-Tropical Storm Elida is a shell of its former self, but will still its effects will still be felt throughout the Bay Area.
Bay Area to see tropical clouds, spotty rain and surging humidity
Remnants of Tropical Storm Elida are nudging toward California, keeping clouds and raindrops in the forecast Tuesday. A muggy day is expected Wednesday.
