[PR RT - OptaSTATS] The @tigers are the second team in MLB history to have a 10+ run shutout win in 3 consecutive series (14-0 vs. Orioles, 11-0 at A's, 11-0 at Mariners). The other was the Boston Beaneaters in September 1897.

As Baltimore continues to hit new lows in gun violence, the city saw 7 homicides in July. It’s the lowest on record (since 1970) for the month of July, historically deadliest month of the year For context: 2015: 45 homicides in July 2019: 38 2022: 34 2024: 25 2025: 15 2026: 7
As much as I want the Tigers to be on it this year, these last two series should be the nail in the coffin. Maybe they’ll still make a run, but I don’t see how they can avoid selling at this point

Verlander is 18th in S-JAWS all-time and will finish ahead of Kershaw, Greinke, and Scherzer — higher than any other pitcher who has retired since 2009 (Pedro and the Big Unit) — in part because he also threw the most innings of that cohort. Damn impressive career.

Topps photog made bank one afternoon at Tiger Stadium in 1985. Hendrick & Holland were traded to the Angels in August that year so these pics were likely taken during the Sept 2-4 series. At least theirs were. DeCinces didn't play in any of the 6 Angels @ Tigers games that year.

A subscriber just told me that as of last night, James Wood, who is 23 and who has played in just 310 games, has faced more pitchers in his career than Ted Williams did. A good reminder that, in addition to facing radically higher velo and better stuff, hitters today have WAY more homework to do.
Fresh off a 3HR game, I finally took a picture of this Colt Keith card I got a few weeks ago. Apparently there was a 2024 Topps Update “Super Box” and this was a “Companion card” — a variation on his normal US79 I actually like learning about new cards like this and prefer them to parallels and SSP

A friendly reminder (especially if you like rookie cards) that Yordan's rookie card (2020 Topps) is widely available for under $2, has him staring at a Home Run to-be, has a rookie cup on it and is just an all around excellent first card.
