Are @nuclearanthro.bsky.social, @nuclearanthro.bsky.social, @grantwtrent.bsky.social, and @jacksonleibach.bsky.social and I going on a road trip? WHO LEFT ALL OF US WITHOUT ADULT SUPERVISION? Oh shit, we're the adults.

Interested in all things nuclear or high voltage — our attendant histories of research and engineering. Industrially hygienic. All posts here do not represent my employer.
Hmm, I flipped on local TV to cook dinner and it's immediately an excerpt of a longer interview with Annie Jacobson waxing very frightening about "chimera viruses" and other biological weapons being the greatest threat for mass death, surpassing nuclear exchanges due to a "lower barrier of entry." 😐

Every time I see Secretary Kennedy speak I'm totally baffled again to think of the few medical professionals I knew who were *excited* by his ascendance. 😐
New RFK Jr. disinformation just dropped: "Many global pandemics we've had have come from gain of function research. RSV and Lime Disease came from this."
RFKJr: "I have never questioned the efficacy of the MMR vaccine." He is lying.
Bash: "you are one of the leading voices against vaccines. Do you accept some responsibility for this outbreak?" RFKJr: "Absolutely not. Did I cause this outbreak?" Bash: "you are the most famous vaccine skeptic."
BASH: How do you prepare for next pandemic? RFK Jr: We did almost everything wrong B: But what about now? K: We need to protect our rights B: ? K: During covid we dismantled our rights B: But I'm asking what *to* do K: You were part of the problem B: You want to sit here and attack me?
I see Annie Jacobsen has produced another disaster book. Given her track record, I don't plan to read it. I'll leave it up to these two experts.
Smart take from @progmil.bsky.social "What Jacobsen offers ...is just play-acting. It’s as if someone suddenly woke up to the fact that biological organisms can be deadly and believes that no one else has thought what to do about it. outbreaks." almauroni.substack.com/p/no-one-mak...
Oh neat, look at that event around the ~46sec mark. 😄 youtu.be/5ToAsdJEyf4?...

Had a novel alarm today for "high building temperature." The master pump stations usually have a climate controlled space for all switchgear and computer stuff. 2 of 3 AC units weren't running — ~87F inside. I was able to fix one and drop temp quickly. :) But HVAC people will need to followup. :/
I found a robot just sitting next to the old Martin Co. engineering office.
Recliner down, time for Oli to find her nest for the night.
I'm pretty sure someone else shared this but don't recall who or any story behind it. Thanks to you. :)
A few things seemingly forgotten in a service corridor between labs in the physics building at a University where I was working. Lead bricks are effective doorstops. 😄

An Eberline E-120 and geiger probe with the great SK-1 model amplified speaker some years ago. This was one of several I fixed up and calibrated before giving away or selling at/below cost back in the Twitter days. I recall this one didn't go to a classroom but hope it's still well-working, fun. 😄
It has been over a decade since I last saw it but remember the Aluminaut on display split in half with plastic windows/walls allowing guests to look inside the craft. I remember that being the best part and feel a little disappointed by only being able to see the outside of it today.

I love old astronomy books. Here they are in 1902 struggling with the identification of my favourite emission line, the 500.7nm emission from oxygen. It is a forbidden transition, so not seen in normal lab spectra; here it is speculated to be from an unknown element, “nebulum.” 🧪🔭
The dogs appear back in their work week routine per this morning's update. :)
Oh man, it seems like someone dumped these dogs. 😢 They emerged from some woods far from any houses at an industrial facility this morning. Came to me when I called, chowed down on any food/water offered and let us leash them. Animal control is on their way while folks here have an eye on them.
