Once upon a time, before 9/11, I used to like going to airports just to hang out. While expensive, the usually had neat shops, food and odd museum displays outside gates. TSA ended all that in American airports and any airport with a USA-bound flight. Train stations still retain that charm to me.

"According to Omio (...) summer travellers may be better off choosing a plane over a train, with rail bookings on the continent having grown year-on-year by 32% – more than triple that of flight bookings." Faster, cleaner, and more convenient. #Sufficiency www.euronews.com/travel/2026/...

Oops. I forgot one of those conversational third rails. In addition to politics and religion, Americans are bit weird about cars and my opinions are not in keeping with tradition. I'm generally not excited about the means or path so much as being at the destination. Teleportation would be best.

SHOCKING PHIL LORE/SHAMEFUL ADMISSIONS: Prior to 2003, I had never had sweet chilli anything. Luckily, Bailey's in Christchurch fixed me and taught me about this important condiment. Took several more years to regularly find it around these parts.

Bay Area friends: would you consider opening your home to these two cuddly cats? A friend found them behind a gas station. Their sibling, a black cat, got adopted, but it appears no one likes orange cats. They are being kept in a bathroom for the time being and need a home.

A friend of mine found these three kittens behind a Bay Area gas station. They are tame, vaccinated, and incredibly affectionate. Unfortunately, she's unable to keep them and I'm trying to find them a home. They are at risk of going to a shelter. Bay Area people, are you open to adopting?

Three kittens in a cage. Two are orange and one is black.

If we could get some brand synergy for this with Original Poop Knife, I think we have our next trillion dollar ocmpany.

Student's summer classes have been a bit of an eye opener for me. I've always known that intro Biology classes with lab pull A LOT of bullshit on students. A lot of "not enough time to teach what the cirriculum says you will" while having Chemistry classes at the same time doing the same damn thing.

Because @margath.bsky.social was brave and asked the question again, prompted by Trump Shitting Yourself to Death Parasites, here is a short thread about food & drug gamma sterilization. Specifically, what it isn't good for.

Not in a way that will leave you with recognizable, nutritious lettuce after. Some foods, especially leafy green ones, just don't handle sterilizing kGy-MGy doses well.
