Jessica Greenberg is a criminal defense attorney out of Richmond, VA, US. Nothing I post is legal advice.

Just remembering this exists. When work gets busy, I tend to disappear from social media. My clients come first 🤷🏻‍♀️ which is extremely unlikely to change any time soon. Also, the world’s still on fire and work reminds me of that enough, some days. It’s easier to check out for a while after I’m done.

I had an amazing outcome in court today. The judge gave my client no active time on a charge with guidelines of 1y6m to 3y8m. This client is in recovery from SUD and has been doing amazingly, clean for the longest period of their life. And I’m so happy them will be able to keep building a life.

This is for a good cause, folks. Anything can help. Additionally: For those who donate $10 or more, Bear Den Hosting will offer 3 months of access to our private cloud with email ($30 value) - just send a picture of the confirmation to us in an email to Arthfach@Bear-Den.org and we'll be in touch!

Some clients of mine are in a really tough situation and trying to make sure their two very young children are still able to have a Merry Christmas. Please help if you can, or spread the word if you can't. All funds will go straight to the parents, my firm is just organizing. gofund.me/56e34ba9f

1/2: So Saturday is the No Kings protest. Once again, if things go badly, I will be doing sliding scale and (where possible) free representation for anyone who runs into trouble. Please remember holding your phone up to your face to unlock it is legal (so turn off FaceID if you bring it).

Really not appreciating the part where ICE keeps showing up to the courthouse where I handle appointed cases. There was a protest about it today, but I'm not sure what that achieves. Most of the jails are actively cooperating with the round up of innocent (unless proven guilty) people to "deport".

Thanks @arthfach.com Our number is 804-292-0550. Please take it with you if you are protesting in the Richmond area. Hopefully it’s completely unneeded, but just in case I will do my best to be available today. If you get our voicemail, please leave a message, I will be checking them.

A brief reminders for those protesting today: set your phone for a lock code only if you bring it with you, and take my office number if you’re in the Richmond vicinity. I will handle protester cases for free where possible, at a discounted rate if not.

Ok, this is not ok. My entire generation’s phobias of these things not being safe to drive behind have now been vindicated. And also… how is it possible that we transport things in such a badly designed manner when the logging industry is massive and makes a fortune destroying the planet?!

Since this is in the news again, why you shouldn’t talk to cops: Talk to them 3 times, first time “I stopped at the store and picked up cupcakes”, 2nd you say cakes, 3rd you say dessert. Now you keep “changing your story” and that can be used against you. That you told the truth is no protection.

Lately, it seems like when I get a response to a motion from the prosecutor's office, it feels like they really just did not read what I submitted. Which was short, to the point, and straightforward. And instead I get something where I have to go reread what I filed, because I feel crazy. #lawsky

I would like to know why I saw this headline on the US version at the top in the middle of the night but by the morning it was off the front landing screen for the US, but it’s still on the landing screen for the UK. This kind of filtering is what worries me. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

I really wish Google would stop telling people how legal cases "usually go". Every single state is different, and federal is its own thing. I can't change venue in a criminal case absent 1) proof that the crime actually happened somewhere else or 2) proof a fair jury is impossible in the district.

Dr. Oz, in his committee hearing to head Medicare and Medicaid, called maintaining good health a “patriotic duty”. This is the kind of language used to justify doing terrible things to disabled people, and deserves some scrutiny. This from the man who would control disabled people’s access to care.

Every time a client thinks their disabled, mentally ill or sick loved one is the only one the jail is neglecting, or that the prosecutor is treating their case uniquely by seeming to think their loved one's freedom and well-being doesn't matter just highlights for me how much we've all been lied to.

This honestly is good advice for attorneys right now too. Remember to take care of yourselves. We are all feeling overwhelmed watching anxioulsy to see if the legal system is going to survive this. But you can't watch it every second, you go mad at the best of times. These are not those times.

Hi, media friends. It's me, your Journalist Work Mom Pal. Do things seem overwhelming right now? Is there too much to cover and not enough time or resources? Here are some things that have helped me.

I can't attend, I will be representing a young person at risk from these policies in court. But if you are going, we will be repping as many as we can for free or on a sliding scale. Our office number is 804-292-0550. I suggest writing it on your arm. #lawsky rvamag.com/community/ri...
