Today, our Finance Minister pulled together a press conference to announce that there is no new support on the way for families, despite it costing $23 more than normal to fill an average petrol car & $36 more to fill a diesel car.

The Coalition Government love giving the rich more money and aren’t shying away from corporate welfare. The common factor in cancelling policies like the Clean Car Discount and GIDI fund was that they were reducing emissions (and therefore our exposure to high oil prices.)

If Nicola Willis really didn’t want to hand out lots of money to rich people, why the billions in tax cuts for landlords? It’s an absolute rubbish excuse to cancel a policy that was demonstrably working to bring in EVs and low emissions vehicles.

The price of petrol is rising. Meanwhile, the Luxon Government has cancelled the Clean Car Discount and is potentially scrapping the Clean Car Standard, two options which would reduce our need for fuel in the long term.
