one of the best teachers I ever had told me the reason kids learn easier than adults is because kids don't worry about messing up the way adults do, so kids learn because they actually spend time familiarizing themself while learning from their mistakes. this helped me learn new skills!

i've struggled with perfectionism my whole life and "I can't do it unless it's good from the start" has kept me from starting SO many projects. It's been a lot easier now that I can go "well literally anything I do will be better than THIS" has really helped my confidence

There is something so compelling and beautiful about robot fail videos

a lot of supposedly smart people really not understanding or appreciating that there's places for different works to use different methods for different effects. Utter absurdity of suggesting Nolan's Odyssey is "bad" for interpreting a work itself in vernacular that's elevated/mythic in its own way

Such classics I have experienced in my past posting... "Be proud and share what you're working on!" being seen as an attempt to shame people who were shy, or "Game jams are great ways to practice/learn" being seen as an attempt to incite devs to become scabs who work for free

This used to happen to me all the time to the point I don't post takes anymore. Pre-covid, I'd say something like "I understand that there are different benefits of in-office work but I think a wider remote talent pool can at least be -considered- for accessibility', and I'd be called anti-office

Like, thematically, Nolan is using the Odyssey to almost speak *as* 'western civilization' and then what he says is, "you men (very much *men*), with your violent inhospitality, your greed and appetites are what has destroyed civilization by breaking the bonds between people."

The practical effect of the Cyclops was like something out of Pan’s Labyrinth or William Blake

I really don’t mind the modern phrases and accents in The Odyssey anymore than they bothered me in Death of Stalin.

The Odyssey is one of the best movies I’ve seen in ages. It’s gonna be hard for any director to top it this year and for a long time to come, I think. I was even compelled to clap at the end of the movie which I generally find cringey but I just couldn’t help myself. One of Nolan’s best. Go see it!

Wow wow wow Odyssey!!! Exceptional. Essentially a horror movie in its tone, I loved almost every single take and choice they made — they wielded the source material rather than treating it as something inert, and the pearl clutching of some classicists about it is just absurd
