Americans are now so used to their president cheating and breaking rules that many of them seem genuinely not to understand why the world was rooting for Belgium.
It shouldn't really be a surprise after all this time but Trump's ability to pollute and corrupt anything half-decent that comes within 100 miles of him is simply extraordinary. Pure, malevolent poison. #gobelgium

First hummingbird hawk moth of the year, spotted near Lewes Golf Club today. In a crowded field for my favourite insect, probably ahead by a nose.

Once again, Brighton and Hove’s brave and inclusive city has massively outnumbered an attempted fascist march on our streets. Love will win. Pics: forward view, backward view, team view, street view. #gohomeracists #Brighton

4 red cards in the entire Qatar World Cup. 4 in Russia. 3 in 1st game of WC 2026. Last one was mad, denying a clear scoring opportunity when he's that far wide? Can't even be 50pc sure he'd have found team-mate with the cross. Epsom stewards have serious comp for worst sporting precedent of 2026.
The Gambling Commission licensed a Ponzi. It was warned that Football Index was a Ponzi 13 months before it crashed. It stood & watched as it went under with £100m+ of punters' cash. But when it comes to workplace sweeps on the World Cup, suddenly it's interested. Bizarre/shameful in equal measure.

The #Merlin app reckoned it heard a Golden Oriole when I was out for a walk in Kingley Vale nature park yesterday. Seems a little unlikely to me but have to admit it was bang on with the others.
Gambling Commission delays decision on affordability checks (or Financial Risk Assessments, as they prefer). Spokesperson: "The [GC] Board ... was presented with an extensive evidence base but has not yet fully completed its assessment of that evidence. We will communicate further in due course."
Love this story. I've still got a (half-filled) 1974 Panini album somewhere. Remember finding it impossible to get Johan Neeskens for love nor money, but having Johnny Reps coming out of my ears. www.theguardian.com/football/202...

Labour 4-7 with Ladbrokes to win Makerfield by-election, but Andy Burnham odds-against on Betfair for next prime minister. Feels like too big a gap.

It would be wrong to suggest that Aston Villa's performance tonight was the most blatant "not off" since those long-ago halcyon days when Reg Akehurst was trying to slide one in at the bottom of the weights for the Wokingham. But only because Reg was much more subtle about it.
