Gunwale

A cozy sci-fantasy adventure aboard a narrowboat with Greeley Stonehammer and her cat, Yato. Together, they explore the strange new world that is adulthood.

These are all the pieces for the current location(room) I'm working on for Gunwale. I did originally start out doing big single images but I discovered that smaller pieces with more parallax looked cooler in motion.

A selection of environment layers that make up a location in the game. Some of the background bits assembled as they appear in the game. Along with Greeley and the Gunwale Regis in the foreground.

So yesterday morning I wake up and decide I've been approaching the controls to Gunwale all wrong by trying to make it work for Joypad first. So I sat down and spent the day reworking things to work with mouse. Now it feels right.

Working the kinks out of the Spine plugin for Construct. By 'kinks' I really mean to say I'm leaning my way around it. Pretty happy with it so far and it's not even final release yet.

A few test heads for Greeley made from various sub-objects. I've got a few more pieces to do but I'm pretty happy with the cartoony feel so far. These are going to be pretty small on screen most of the time as seen in the pic with her on the Regis.

Swapped one of the critters (the Waggletail) from a set of sprite frames to a Spine puppet. Same animation that I'd exported as frames from Spine before but now it's higher res, smoother animation and I get to use skins for variety. Also, less memory.

Some background character kids for Meggie's class at the Grand Library. Well, they're supposed to be background characters, but I can already see them having their own adventures. I think I'll end up threading a big adventure for them as a background thing for attentive players.
