We are likely to see Saydnaya prison liberated soon from the Assad regime. Between 2011 and 2015 alone the Assad regime hanged as many as 13,000 civilians in Saydnaya prison. Some of the worst horrors committed by the regime have been in Saydnaya.

In his acceptance address, delivered by video from Gaza, Mansour said, in part: I would like to thank everyone who supported the IPA Prix Voltaire and the International Publishers Association. In 2021 my bookshop was completely destroyed. It was rebuilt in 2022. During the current war, the bookshop was also destroyed again and the second branch of the library bookshop was destroyed. However, I am still continuing my work which I grew up with and was raised in since my childhood. I am still publishing despite being on the Gaza strip. God willing us, we will continue to publish and print, no matter how difficult the circumstances we are living today. We will continue.

Thanks to Fitzcarraldo for sending me the new edition of Edward Said's The Question of Palestine. Great to see this classic reissued at an important time, with Said's later essay on the one-state solution and new preface by the excellent Saree Makdisi.

Now that the ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu for war crimes while the ICJ issued a series of provisional measures Israel is ignoring as it faces charges of genocide, every country must do all it can to end this war ASAP. First and foremost, that means a full arms embargo.
