Oh boy. New fresh automotive hell. Dealer is helping but the adversary is State Farm.
This is probably my favorite QSL. Sadly, the envelope it came in was even cooler- but disappeared with much of my shortwave radio ephemera. I think it got pitched when my folk moved in the late 90s. It wasn’t Uzbekistan as such at the time and it seemed so exotic.
Radio was fun when I was younger because of the Cold War. East Bloc stations wanted to be heard in the west and were good at verifying reception reports. I loved the look of the cards from the Soviet Union.
So, why the interest in Postcrossing and correspondence in general? I come by it honestly. From the age of 10 or so, I’ve been into DXing- that is listening to distant radio stations. Part of the hobby involves QSL cards. The pics are of a card that an 11 year old me received from Radio Tirana.
Forgive me. Today I had pie. Blueberry pie. And it was yummy. Good thing there was no ice cream present.
I cringed up so much I almost couldn't watch this whole video.
This utter muppet of a conservative Canadian politician in New Brunswick forgot to remove the LLM text from his floor speech and read it out loud.
Those of us who are radio geeks and listen to #WDET have noticed that HD2 and HD3 digital subchannels have shown up recently- no audio, yet. More goodness on the way?
Ya know, I've tried to be a good boy. Lost a ton of weight, been exercising- keep that T2D in check. Only to be rewarded by the prospect of a summer of boiled lettuce salads.
Postcrossing update: 10 sent, 6 traveling- none received via Postcrossing. I've gotten a couple direct, but... Have learned that Fountain Pens are a bit problematic- gotta choose cardstock carefully. Gel pens are the way to go, I think...
In the summer, I don't so much have a job, as an extended exercise in solitude as psychological torture.
WARNING Radio Nerd stuff: I have been fiddling with Meshtastic for over a year. And while it is kinda cool, I still don't think I get it. Should I be unfaithful and consider Meshcore firmware?
Well, tried to be productive today. Got out ran some errands while the air quality was good. Mowed front yard despite it being 92°. Now the smoke is back and I’m feeling dysthymic.
Aaaaand they just cancelled Ypsi Pride. Well, rescheduled it until 8/30. My every attempt at trying to socialize with my fellow queer people is being thwarted.
Even wildfires smell of plastic now. Are fields of artificial Christmas trees burning somewhere?
The heat does not bug me like it used to. We went out for a nice meal and were seated- alone- on the patio. Quiet and relaxing.
Another giant of comics has left us. From 1965 to 1990, Oliphant was THE dominant political cartoonist in the US (even though he was an Aussie). A generational talent. A complicated guy. Often problematic, often brilliant, always scathing and funny.
Pat Oliphant, Cartoonist Who Skewered the Powerful, Dies at 90 (Gift Article)
The winner of countless awards, including a Pulitzer Prize, he was described in 1990 as “the most influential political cartoonist now working.”

Getting impatient to get my first cards via Postcrossing. I have sent 4, with 5 more traveling. But haven’t gotten any, yet. Don’t need anymore metaphors for life.
Mitch McConnell emerges briefly to announce he's won the decrepit Republican sellout scumbag tontine.
Rewatching Star Trek VI, just saw Kirk smoking a blunt with Iman in a Klingon penal colony.
In the past week, Ken Paxton has been found to have illegally voted six times under a false address and to have spent Independence Day in London with his mistress—threatening to drop his support among MAGA Republicans down to 99 percent.
The best edit I’ve seen in weeks, you absolutely have to turn the sound on for this one.
when i was young they had these people called “investigative journalists” who could find out stuff like if a senator was dead or not
I woke up with the blues. Unfocused dread. Some existential angst. General hopelessness. Any hints on shaking it off?
Power was out for about 24 hours. The generator held its own but didn’t enjoy running both the oven and AC. There were alternatives.
So, I had a routine appointment with my sleep doctor today. I looked at the after visit notes on MyChart. I was described as having a “grossly normal intellect.” Gonna have to see my dermatologist to get salve for that burn.
Aaaaaand we’re on generator. DTE has over 100,000 customers without power.
