Call me crazy but imagine if game awards weren't genre based but instead development based? I want to see award campaigns for Best Optimization, Quest Design, Team Management, QA, Level Design, NPC Programming, and UI Design.

The problem with Blueprints in #Unreal is that you put the project down for 5 minutes (or...months🙃) and the next time you come back to it, your former self is suddenly nowhere to be found to answer questions like 'what's doing this?' and 'why did you set it up like that, you idiot?' #gamedev

Package Profiles for Unity saves your team's time and sanity when dealing with platform-specific package dependencies. Don't waste time maintaining custom scripts to swap packages - just set up a Package Profile to do the job for you! assetstore.unity.com/packages/slu... #unity3d #gamedev #unity

In "I Will Find You" on Netflix, there's a scene where an FBI agent is trying to watch a video which - surprise surprise! - won't play: "If the file is corrupt, we might be able to repair it with a VLC. We just need to rename it as an AVI file, set preferences, and reopen." Guess what didn't work!

Just had a wave of nostalgia remembering Yabasic on the PS2 - shipped entirely for tax avoidance reasons - and the incredibly poor space shooter I made with it ❤️🚀👾 I wish I had videos or screenshots! #gamedev

I decided that I need to learn video editing if I ever want to be able to market anything, and every time I sit down to do it I realise just how much *stuff* needs to be produced to actually do anything even *vaguely* approaching a competent job. Video editors / creators: you have my respect.

Package Profiles has just been updated to version 1.0.1 on the Unity Asset Store! This update fixes a few small bugs and adds import / export tooling, so you can now easily import your existing platform package manifests. #unity3d #gamedev #unity assetstore.unity.com/packages/slu...

Godot updating their contribution policies to stem the flood of AI contributions is, I think, the right choice, especially for an open source project. The answer to "how do you deal with thousands of AI PRs" shouldn't be "also use AI reviewers" imo! godotengine.org/article/cont... #gamedev #godot

Changes to our Contribution Policies – Godot Engine

Godot is growing fast, so here is how we are dealing with the huge increase in contributions.

If - as many Unity developers do - you realise that a single package manifest isn't suitable for your codebase’s needs, then you can either sink time into managing multiple package manifests yourself, or you can use Package Profiles, which does the job for you! u3d.as/3VV5 #gamedev #unity3d

Back in the early-mid-90s a big part of game discovery (for me, at least) were computer fairs. Usually a computer-oriented market: you'd walk into the venue (in my experience, usually a gym which had been taken over by the nerdiest people in the local vicinity) and dig through boxes of floppy disks
