I love how the previous generations of storyboard artists were allowed to draw silly cartoon characters on flat wobbly backgrounds, but now we have to learn how to draw the most realistic anime proportions and perspective ever to even be considered for a job

This has been hitting women, particularly BIPOC women, in animation pretty hard over the last few years. Animation has historically been a boys club, and we’re rapidly backtracking *and* losing institutional knowledge
I am 53 and have been essentially forced into retirement. I thought it was just me, until I found an entire community of women in the same situation on Instagram. So many of us have just been told that we simply have nothing to contribute to society anymore.
digging through old sketchbooks from 2015-2016, I enjoy how I drew myself back then!
One animator put it plainly: “You have no idea how frustrating it is to see press release after press release touting how much money our animated film made and how many nominations we got; then [the studio] turns to people who have worked here forever and says, ‘We don’t need you anymore.’” Heh.
Hollywood Can’t Survive Without Animation. So Why Won’t the Industry Respect It?
Animated films made billions in 2026 while Pixar and Netflix cut jobs. Inside animation's paradox and its long shut-out from the best picture race.

It’s great moving back to Michigan amidst like 30 data centers trying to pop up like weeds, wildfire smoke drifting in, heat and humidity so high the air feels wet, and being the epicenter of a completely preventable diarrhea virus outbreak… it’s so great. 😃
Happy #PortoflioDay! I’m available for full-time or freelance storyboard and revisionist roles beginning in August! I have over 5 years of professional experience and can hit the ground running. Thanks! www.hannahleestockdale.com

Wrapping up my first week helping out on a really cool thing at Titmouse! It’s just a short gig, but holy moly, did I miss this.
ICE shot this man, a loving husband and father of three, dead, for the crime of going to work Tuesday morning. His family's gofundme for funeral/services is about halfway to its goal gofund.me/660ca4364

If you are aware of AI use on an animated production at a signatory studio please e-mail ai@tag839.org
"whatever, everyone already uses it anyway so it's fine" is just not really the message a sorry person promotes. I'm frustrated by how everyone just gave him the benefit of the doubt. I'm not feeling very forgiving when this is the messaging. I don't think I'm being unreasonable either
The team aspect of animation is by far my favorite part. Sitting in a pitch room w/ the whole crew cracking up during a pitch is so fun & special. Helping out on record days w/ the recording crew & voice actors. Seeing ideas you pitched to the showrunners make it to final. Why forsake that?
Making an animated series is arduous work, often times it’s a miserable experience but the one thing that makes it all worth it is knowing I’m making a crew of actual, talented humans suffer and sometimes die by screaming orders at them. Take that away and what’s even the point??
I was right about NFTs and I'll be right about gen AI in animation. If you try to justify it in your production it's going to be a stain on your reputation.
GenAI and misogyny truly are like peanut butter and jelly
Jorge R. Gutierrez says animating with AI was like “having sex and then they hand you the baby” during his appearance at the AI on the Lot convention. He currently has a project named ‘Punky Duck’ through Amazon MGM’s GenAI Creators’ Fund.
Animation is a team sport but I guess your peers become obstacles instead of collaborators when can't work for peanuts or volunteer their time to contribute to the vision. But why would you ever give them up for a fucking planet killing souless technology if you were into making art?
People are acting like this is a betrayal because it IS, in fact, a betrayal. There is no solidarity here. Fuck AI, humanity forever.
Three AI animated series are heading to Prime Video streaming via Amazon MGM/AWS-backed GenAI Creators' Fund: 'Cupcake & Friends;' 'Love, Diana Music Hunters;' and 'Punky Duck' from Jorge Gutierrez.
This should be painfully obvious but apparently it needs saying: If you're an "aspiring" artist and you openly talk shit about other creators, your career is over before it started. You've permanently ruined your chances by proving to be too much of an asshole to work in this space. Hit the bricks.
Just a heads up that in June I’ll be closing the shop for some time as I take care of some life stuff!

I think there's a contingent of people who happily harass individual artists over corporations that are objectively worse because they don't care about the right thing. They just care about feeling like they made an impact. Any impact. And they'll come up with any reason to justify it.
"the R slur is coming back" not within slapping distance of me it's not
Indie studios are obv not corporate entities, but if you’re hoping to be hired for projects and your social media is full of you talking shit about an indie show you don’t like, I promise that won’t help your odds. Professionalism is still a thing in indie spaces!
These assholes have stolen my art *multiple* times, have never compensated me for their profits, and have the audacity to be too lazy to even remove my signature for their shitty t shirts. Be sure to block them on socials.
PSA because I'm tired of this 🧵
Belatedly realized someone swiped something from my gallery show display, and I’m pretty salty about it. It was just a little plastic figurine for decor but like… come on.

so much now in the US and its industries is that white men are upset that people other than them were finding success and realizing maybe they aren’t god’s gift, so they’re destroying everything that worked because they’re big baby assholes who can’t share so now everything is shit for everyone.
