Haskell can call into C code without blocking main thread (meaning that the C FFI plays nice with green threads because it can be preempted) and without the user having to manually manage a thread pool or similar. It's handled completely transparently for the user by the language and runtime
Maybe the Glasgow Haskell Compiler is in Scotland because type systems are easier there...
