I get it, some people don't like motion blur in games, but it still irks me when people gaslight themselves into thinking that motion blur isn't real, while exactly describing the experiment that proves to you that yes, even when looking at the world with our own eyes, motion blur is a thing.

I just noticed that the new Speedtree version, containing a fix that I desperately needed, got released almost 3 months ago! Tbf, I only checked the official web site, forum, and the Unity blog regularly, so it's probably my fault that I missed it🫠

TIL that McDonald's fries are officially called 'World Famous Fries®', and I'm simultaneously rolling my eyes and slightly impressed that somewhere out there, there's a marketing agency that got paid for coming up with that name.

*sigh* 'redundancies' isn't a word to use when reporting about layoffs. I understand why the company announcing the layoffs might use it, but if you're a reporter and using that euphemism, you're not doing your job.

If you've been watching recent engine-related news from the industry and are feeling disenchanted with that trajectory, I'd like to share some non-mainstream projects that might brighten your day:

On March 26, 2026, during a debate on violence against women in Germany’s Bundestag, left-wing MP Kathrin Gebel was repeatedly interrupted by AfD MP Martin Reichardt. She responded: “Mr. Reichardt, the clitoris has 3,000 nerve endings, and you’re still more sensitive. That’s quite an achievement.”

For @aftermath.site, the Steam Machine costs too much money because of greedy freaks. But a community has formed around optimizing a low budget alternative made from failed PlayStation 5's that got turned into crypto mining cards and then resold as garbage. aftermath.site/bc250-steam-...

Bless The BC250, The Budget E-waste Steam Machine Alternative

The Steam Machine is expensive due to evil freaks. Let's make a miracle computer out of garbage.

Purchased an AMD BC-250 crypto mining card and I’m gonna install Bazzite on that sucker for @aftermath.site. Literally just making a steam machine out of a PS5 APU. Please support the site if you like funding this stuff.

Quick #Unreal tip due to the current heat wave: Disable the realtime viewport! As long as you aren't actively working in the level, you don't need it. No point in rendering the game at 60 fps while you're busy editing blueprint graphs. With a beefy GPU, this reduces the room temperature noticeably.

Two Point Museum really is a showcase for pragmatic tech art decisions in #gamedev . To give the visitors some privacy on the toilets, a trapdoor closes on top of the cabin while its in use. That's like 5 minutes to implement for an animator.

The #Unreal MCP is a bold step for the mystification of software. Unreal has grown so complex that even for mundane tasks you have to wade through obscure checkboxes, outdated docs and deprecated features. But instead fixing these issues, Epic now gives you an AI model that uses the engine for you.🧵

If you have downloaded the Hogwarts Legacy Creator Kit, take a look into ...\HogwartsLegacyCreatorKit\PhoenixGame\Tools\Scripts\EditorPython\PEEVES\Core It contains all validators, written in Python. Excellent learning resource if you want to get the most out of validators in #Unreal. #gamedev

Sad to see the Rayman Legends Retold. The original is one of the very rare games that combine pure 2D graphics with a really high production value. Would've loved to see a remaster to demonstrate just how good modern 2D games can look. Instead, it just looks like every other AA game out there.

The Halo remake/ Gears prequel show how different games looked on the XBox/PS2 and on the 360/PS3. Low polycounts and missing normal maps forced the designs to be more efficient. No noisy details, but big shapes. I vastly prefer these designs, even when combined with modern graphics techniques.

#Unreal now has material functions to create UVs for hex tiling, tri- or octaplanar mapping and other projections, even with POM support and (bi)tangent vector outputs for normal reorientation. Figuring out the math for that on your own is quite daunting, so these premade functions are super useful!

Pirate Facts #1 🏴‍☠️ The pigs in Corsair Cove aren’t there by accident! Pirates often kept pigs on their ships. Without refrigeration, they needed a reliable source of fresh meat. Pigs were perfect because they were easy to feed and could be slaughtered when needed.
