Fawns on our land, again! They make this my favorite time of year in the Black Range. We’re so grateful to be able to nurture a wild space where cattle can’t graze. The grass grows tall and provides cover for mamas and their babies.

I am writing to invite the developers of Project Jupiter to abandon their plans, pack their things, and leave Doña Ana County for good. I’m serious. As an early supporter of this project because of the jobs and infrastructure it promised, I’m fed up with the dishonesty, broken promises and threats.

After a full, hot morning working on drainage issues in a ravine on the land we own and repairing a fence, I napped under a tree. Then I saw a rafter of turkeys… look at the babies! Also, isn’t the red clay gorgeous? 😍 Now on to my final column. Lots happened last week. This one will be a doozy.

Great news: the courts will have a chance to rein in the abuses at Camp East Montana, the infamous tent camp built on Fort Bliss in El Paso. I have known seasoned veterans of this field who visited the camp and came away saying it was one of the worst ICE detention centers they’d ever been to.
