Apologies if I sound angry, but it is a real problem that the 'smart' commentary on this war is trying hard to avoid the core lesson ("the president is a fucking moron") because it doesn't sound very clever when it is absolutely the most important takeaway from this debacle.

Another exhibit in 'however bad you thought the campus chilling effect on speech was, obvious state repression of campus speech is much, much worse.' Anyone who made a big deal out of the former who isn't now greatly exercised by the latter was pretty clearly working in bad faith.
