Ever wondered how mammalian cells sense osmotic stress? There's gotta be a signaling pathway, right? We propose a *one-component system*: NFAT5, the transcription factor that executes the osmoprotective response, is also the stress sensor! www.science.org/doi/full/10....

Direct ionic stress sensing and mitigation by the transcription factor NFAT5

Intracellular ionic strength is sensed and regulated by a prion-like domain in a transcription factor.

It’s been a tough few weeks. My 10yo daughter was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive cancer called interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS). I’m reaching out to identify clinicians/patients who have encountered pediatric IDCS or other (non-LCH) dendritic or histiocytic sarcomas cases.

Quick poll: what year is the below abstract from? „Our results indicate that protein sequences contain not only a folding code, but also a previously unrecognized code governing their distribution to diverse subcellular compartments.“

Dunno what they have planned, but a devastated NIH will destroy universities and academic science (on the heels of significant COVID impacts) but will also destroy biotech and cede US leadership in this sector to China and elsewhere very very quickly.
