It's not so much that our fears often outstrip reality as that they are often misplaced; the unknown is frequently not nearly as hostile as our instincts would tell us, but the familiar is often teeming with hidden dangers
Creating scenarios in that in-between space of ominous and comforting is fun because of the mystery of an unknown outcome. But, simultaneously, there’s something enjoyable about the hopeful possibility that the conclusion is an unexpectedly kinder, gentler one.
