Not one for footballing conspiracies. Until this World Cup. The lack of a booking for Mac Allister there is just inexplicable. Just as many of the non-bookings against England were. With the Balogan stuff… this is just getting ridiculous from FIFA.

We do something good, the opposition counters, Tuchel yet again has no answer whatsoever. France are playing well, but bringing on Watkins for Rashford was a mistake. Not making a substitution until the 78th minute. Why - again - can he not see the blatantly obvious?

When you take into account Mexico’s record, the altitude, the manager’s frankly awful squad selection, the puss-weak, inconsistent ref, the red card… that may be England’s greatest knock-out win of my lifetime. Pickford, Guehi, Rice, Gordon, Bellingham, even Spence, all 10 out of 10.

Good performance in these circumstances. Worried about the ref, who is out of his depth (just like the ref from the DR Congo game). The Rice booking was a poor decision and the ‘foul’ by Saka for their goal was non-existent. Maybe we can get King Charles to ring Infantino to get them overturned.

Four poor halves out of five for England in the World Cup so far. The tournament is never won or lost in the group stage but worrying developments can emerge. And so far England have plenty of them. Tuchel engineered a situation where we’d have Quansah and Konsa together. And it looks shit.

Save for Saka not a solitary England player can say they were anything other than fairly shit or utter shit tonight. No need to panic - we’re still a good side - but surely Madueke and Gordon can no longer start. And might there be a consideration that we could be a better side without Rice?
