A ★★★★ review of Hellboy: The Crooked Man (2024)

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a movie like this. It feels like opposed to Guillermo del Toro making a movie about the character, this movie adapted an entry from the comic series directly. (Having...

A ★★★ review of M3GAN 2.0 (2025)

The creepy physical effects and frightening idea of an AI/android beginning to act autonomously from the first movie, watered down to a kids-friendly action movie. It’s okay, the humour works, the unc...

A ★★★★★ review of The Odyssey (2026)

Well this was, as we say in Germany, „ein Brett“. A plank? Not a minute of boredom in 2°52‘, loved the handmade effects, the narration technique of „let me tell you“ and „do you remember“ gave the age...

A ★★★★ review of What Women Want (2000)

The teen and I wanted something to make fun of, but then we saw it’s a Nancy Meyer movie and actually enjoyed it. Knowing what I know about Mel Gibson now, it’s not an easy watch in that regard.

A ★★★★★ review of The Golden Glove (2019)

More palatable than the AfD press conference, yet Handmaid’s Tale helps cleanse the palate. Not an easy watch but one of the strongest German movies I’ve seen (probably doesn’t mean much).

A ★★★★★ review of Crazy, Stupid, Love. (2011)

Finally watched this with the (Ryan Gosling loving) kids. Absolutely enjoy this little romcom/family/coming of age. Perfectly casted, lovingly written and endearingly acted. Yes, it may be simple (is ...

A ★★ review of Primate (2025)

You rarely see this kind of movie anymore… or at least, I don’t. Chockful of young folk I can’t wait to see die.  It’s not boring but we spend a lot of it wondering why they didn’t do something more s...

A ★★ review of The Dead Are Alive (1972)

Italian crime flics from the seventies (goalless) are mostly out of my taste range. This one was rather boring (or it was late), not too bad on the misogyny and en-passant sexual violence, it has Nadj...

A ★★★★ review of The New One-Armed Swordsman (1971)

Shaw Bros., David Chiang, Ti Lung, sword fighting, one-armed kitchen action, Chinese medieval life (or something), bromance and make-up. A good movie for teen‘s first outing to Mondo Bizarr.

A ★★★★ review of Thunderbolts* (2025)

Welp… I cried. For a while, it’s a slightly dirtier, self-deprecating, morbidly funny entry into the MCU, and then it turns into a therapy session for anyone who has experienced mental health issues. ...

A ★★★★★ review of The Exorcist (1973)

It was time for the teen… „something old and scary“ was asked. I still find it one of the creepiest movies ever, still get chills when Regan comes down the stairs, tells the astronaut he’s going to di...

A ★★★★★ review of The Big Lebowski (1998)

Every once in a while, someone (often the Coen Brothers) makes a perfect movie. This movie about nothing just starts, goes on and finishes and things happen, money moves around, Caucasians are drunk a...

A ★★★★★ review of Déjà Vu (2006)

Orange and teal. Crime and timetravel. Denzel and Val. Love and sacrifice. The car chase in two times simultaneously is mindblowing.

A ★★★★★ review of Wake Up Dead Man (2025)

It must be something about the church that I as an atheist find specifically enchanting. The foreshadowing, the filth of shifting shame from the men to the women, the ab-use of the resurrection… and i...
