This is a bizarre question: what year did Cotton Eye Joe become super popular in the US? My memory tells me I'd never heard it until about 2002 when it suddenly became a staple of every school dance and birthday party, so I was pretty confused to just now learn that it actually came out in 1994.

.@zusty.bsky.social and I went on the Indieventure podcast to talk about the writing of Wanderstop. I recommend it if you're interested in a deep dive into our writing process!

I had a lovely time chatting with The Verge about the process of getting Wanderstop made! Thanks @lewisgordon.bsky.social for this writeup.

“This game took so fucking long that cozy game is now like a swear word.” For @theverge.com, I talked with Davey Wreden aka @hellocakebread.bsky.social about Wanderstop, burnout, and what it means to pour your entire self into your games. www.theverge.com/games/627549...

I cannot believe I'm actually writing these words: Wanderstop is OUT NOW!! Although it's difficult to communicate just how meaningful this moment is to me, I've done my best to put my thoughts into a personal note. Thank you, and I hope you enjoy the game 💖

Today is the launch of Wanderstop! I've been writing/directing this game for many years, pouring my absolute heart and soul into it. I put everything I had into it, left absolutely nothing on the table, and in the end created something that I'm deeply proud of.

Many of you are fans of my previous works, The Stanley Parable and The Beginner's Guide, and obviously Wanderstop is a completely different sort of game! To be honest it's kind of terrifying, for there to be such expectations based on my previous work and to know that some people will inevitably be disappointed with this new direction. At the same time, this is the game I absolutely knew without a doubt that I needed to make. When I went to the creative wellspring to ask for inspiration, this project is what I received. It is deeply personal to me, and I can only ask that you give it a shot.

But this project was also an incredible group effort, a phenomenal collaboration amongst artists. I am so grateful to every member of the Ivy Road team, their hard work and dedication is the entire reason this game exists. To every one of them, thank you thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart. And lastly thank you to Annapurna for your unwavering belief in this game over the years, you gave us far more time and resources than we deserved and for that I will be eternally grateful.

Alright, I'm gonna go have a cup of tea.

People have been receiving the promotional swag kits we sent out for Wanderstop and it's super adorable! Oh my god Wanderstop launches in 3 dayssss 😵‍💫🫠

Honestly, the Wanderstop kit was so heckin' thoughtful I *had* to take it outside. Thanks SO MUCH @ivyroadgames.bsky.social , @annapurna.com , and particularly @kimchica.bsky.social (and the on-brand mug colors for @intelligame.us 🔥🖤💛🖤💛)

A photo of the Wanderstop influencer kit: a teal journal labeled "Field Guide," a woodgrain-printed box with the Wanderstop logo, a yellow tea mug with black streaks (which I'm in love with) and a little green penguin-like charm with a charmingly-angry unibrow. Also four custom packages of tea :)
