i love that 90s sega of america thought of cutting this entire level from game gear ristar because "a survey showed children had difficulty understanding the concept of walking on clouds and rainbows"

a screenshot of the first level in the second world of "ristar" on the game gear. ristar is standing on a cloud that has a rainbow arc jutting out of it, with a few beanstalks visible in the foreground and background

pretty sick thrift pickup on my lunch break. it's even the very specific model that doesn't scratch the shit out of discs! just needed a quick touchup on a cold solder joint by the power socket and a real good cleaning

a photo of me holding a white playstation 2 slim in front of some other miscellaneous electronics. it has a $12.28 price sticker attached and looks pretty dirty in spotsa close-up of the ps2's motherboard, specifically the power socket. the solder joint for the positive lead is cold and has cracked away from the solder pad connecting power to the rest of the boardthe same white ps2 slim, after a good cleaning

supposedly the website hit 100,000 views yesterday the counter can't differentiate bots / crawlers from humans so it doesn't really mean much, but if you're actively choosing to read the stuff i put out, thanks. it really does means a lot

a cropped screenshot of the neocities profile for my website, herzogzwei.neocities.org. the profile statistics say the website has 100,324 views, 30 followers, and 3,152 updates

spent a few hours this afternoon installing a backlight + bivert chip in a game boy, very happy i didn't break anything while tearing the original polarizer off the LCD, that shit is terrifying in the moment! for ~$20, it's quite the looker, too

a photo of an original gray brick game boy, displaying the title screen to adventure island 2. a backlight and bivert chip has been installed, making the screen display a bright white and blue color with much higher contrasts between the dark and light pixels

a proclamation for all gamers: you cannot say a video game is bad until you beat one loop of challenger (1985) on default difficulty without savestates or rewinding and also say three nice things about the experience

the ending to challenger on the famicom. the challenger has rescued the princess from the evil don waldorado in the final cave section, as the game says "CONGRATULATIONS" and the challenger and princess stare at each other in their idle sprites with a heart between the two of them

25-30 years is a lot of time for someone to change their opinion on "i do / don't want to do [x]", so it's only a bit surprising to read 1996 miyamoto saying no to filmmaking that and "video production" would be crucial to the business in the 21st century, just not in how he thought of it back then

Miyamoto: Everyone talks about the PlayStation right now, but we are trying to do something entirely different with the N64, so in that sense, we don't worry about it too much. However, looking at games like D, I do think about the necessity of full-motion video. People bring it up to me a lot lately. I have no desire to get into filmmaking myself, but I do wonder whether Nintendo needs to become an organization capable of producing video content. If that time comes, we will need people to manage that kind of pipeline. That's the sense in which it concerns me.

Today we have something special: a newly translated interview from July 1996 between Shigeru Miyamoto and Kenji Eno! Conducted just weeks after the launch of Mario 64, Eno takes Miyamoto to task (in a friendly way) with several fascinating critiques of its design. shmuplations.com/miyamotoxeno/

happy nonbinary day n stuff. i feel like i still have lots of this gender thing to work out that has a low priority on my massive list of (mostly tangible) stuff i need to work on although i guess i am glad that i've accepted the label cause it took me a while. i suppose i can feel pride in that

yard sarding and thrift shrifting today, $60 for everything! the consoles were sold "not working" but they work for me? yay? y'allre pondering the definition of your favorite five-letter word, i'm over here wondering "why would someone have four colecovision controllers but no colecovision..."

a photo of a pile of video game stuff on a table. included are a big box CIB copy of "you don't know jack huge xxxl", a sega master system, an atari 2600 junior, and four colecovision controllers

my inside sources have confirmed to me that today is, in fact, #RandomGameSaturday here's another manga fighting game that i put enough time into to unlock everything despite not reading / watching anything else in the series (see: jojo heritage for the future) now i just want to play hftf lmao

a complete copy of "inuyasha: a feudal fairy tale" for the playstation. the box art has a bunch of characters from the series posing next to inuyasha, who has to pose the coolest because he's the coolest
