We brought our Camp Snap camera with us to Dollar Lake last week. Took some great photos when the fog rolled in on the last morning we were there. (bonus cool tree picture)

Wal-Mart at 9am on a weekday is as close to a spa retreat as I can get these days
Avoiding restaurants using AI is saving me from a lot of FOMO these days, not gonna lie. And money.
AI slop is *extra* rampant when it comes to interior decorating inspo so I got some design books from the library. The constant vigilance online is exhausting, and I need something that is actually physically possible to recreate. 🙃
Me to Halifax transit: run the Woodside ferry on busy weekends you cowards
My partner forgot the name of What We Do in the Shadows and instead called it "So You Want to Be a Vampire"

The feeling of betrayal when one of your favourite local businesses starts posting AI slop ))))):
Please subscribe to the Examiner if you appreciate what they do. It's one way you can fight the extinction of local journalism.
I criticized Tim Houston and a bunch of people cancelled their Halifax Examiner subscriptions Morning File by me

Normally I wait for contract gaps to take vacations, but I have managed to line up work back-to-back for THREE years in a row (NOT A COMPLAINT I've been insanely lucky) and it's like oh right. Most normal salaried employees, like, take time off sometimes. So I'm off next week - we're going camping!

companies are sourcing millions of printed books for AI labs that scan them for training data, then destroy them. printed books are more valuable because they're free of AI slop, and AI labs know destroying them is an "optics problem." www.404media.co/ai-companies...
AI Companies Are Buying Tons of Old Books Because They're Free of AI Slop
ISBNdb, a company that sources printed books for AI companies to turn into training data, tells clients “the optics problem is real.”

My partner points out that I'm overly cautious while driving sometimes but man, do people NOT check their mirrors when opening their door to get out? Hello??? Cyclists aside there are CARS you could hit
"The driver of the vehicle was issued a summary offence ticket for not having a valid inspection sticker." I'm struggling with this one. A pillar of the community killed by a driver, a family mourning. The system's response feels grotesquely inadequate #VisionZero www.saltwire.com/nova-scotia/...
Cyclist killed in Halifax after vehicle driver opens door into bike's path
A 71-year-old man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after colliding with the door of a truck that opened in his path.

I think all drivers (who are physically able) should try cycling on roads at least once. I spent a few months cycling to work during the pandemic before we moved to Dartmouth and it changed how I drive. I never turn right without checking for cyclists in my right mirror now.
Just a reminder that it costs you NOTHING to check your side mirrors before you open your car door - it could save a life. Same with checking your side mirrors before turning right. Same with not flooring it thru yellow lights. Cyclists find motorcycles riders deserve to make it home alive.

The "Bluenoser way" scolding rings so hollow when it's coming from a Premier who is continuously valuing greed over bettering the lives of Nova Scotians. Please look inward, Tim.

everyone seems to be responding positively to this and i hate to burst anyone's bubble, but i recently went to a Luddite festival in NYC and this is something organizers specifically warned about: don't let capitalists sell your hatred of capitalism back to you
Hatred of AI now reaching the level of cultural consensus that becomes attractive to advertisers
