We brought our Camp Snap camera with us to Dollar Lake last week. Took some great photos when the fog rolled in on the last morning we were there. (bonus cool tree picture)

AI slop is *extra* rampant when it comes to interior decorating inspo so I got some design books from the library. The constant vigilance online is exhausting, and I need something that is actually physically possible to recreate. 🙃

Normally I wait for contract gaps to take vacations, but I have managed to line up work back-to-back for THREE years in a row (NOT A COMPLAINT I've been insanely lucky) and it's like oh right. Most normal salaried employees, like, take time off sometimes. So I'm off next week - we're going camping!

companies are sourcing millions of printed books for AI labs that scan them for training data, then destroy them. printed books are more valuable because they're free of AI slop, and AI labs know destroying them is an "optics problem." www.404media.co/ai-companies...

AI Companies Are Buying Tons of Old Books Because They're Free of AI Slop

ISBNdb, a company that sources printed books for AI companies to turn into training data, tells clients “the optics problem is real.”

My partner points out that I'm overly cautious while driving sometimes but man, do people NOT check their mirrors when opening their door to get out? Hello??? Cyclists aside there are CARS you could hit

"The driver of the vehicle was issued a summary offence ticket for not having a valid inspection sticker." I'm struggling with this one. A pillar of the community killed by a driver, a family mourning. The system's response feels grotesquely inadequate #VisionZero www.saltwire.com/nova-scotia/...

Cyclist killed in Halifax after vehicle driver opens door into bike's path

A 71-year-old man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after colliding with the door of a truck that opened in his path.

I think all drivers (who are physically able) should try cycling on roads at least once. I spent a few months cycling to work during the pandemic before we moved to Dartmouth and it changed how I drive. I never turn right without checking for cyclists in my right mirror now.

Just a reminder that it costs you NOTHING to check your side mirrors before you open your car door - it could save a life. Same with checking your side mirrors before turning right. Same with not flooring it thru yellow lights. Cyclists find motorcycles riders deserve to make it home alive.
