I think what I mean is like the goal of indie-comics shouldn't *inherently* be to be polished, palatable, and high-brow enough to eventually leave. But I think in the Eng-speaking space that's currently… widely the case. And that's why ppl yearn for zines/doujin and more diverse opportunities.

instead of embracing our freedom from industry norms and restrictions, NA indie comics has chosen to create an Industry 2 where we enforce New Norms And Restrictions. and i strongly believe that this is bad for art. the beauty of indie comics lies in our freedom, not a prestigious fair or publisher.

Re: LRP We need more digital comics fairs and then some of them should be lottery-based entry. We also need more IRL zine-comic/doujinshi fairs and more conventions to include them as events, like manga ichiba and stuff and then the Acrylic Doodad Aisles can be a separate thing.

i just really want people to know that if your work has value to you then it deserves to exist and you deserve to be proud of what you've made. It culture shocks me a bit that the english speaking indie comic world seemingly cares about what fair you get into or what publisher picks you up

Not to soap box about this but i feel that ppl in the english indie comics space should hear it: creating doujinshi/self published comics without the stamp of a prestigious fair or an indie publisher does not make you any less of a comic artist. drawing comics makes you a comic artist.

Standard Reader reads comics now. It works out which publications are comics on its own (based on the content and publication settings). They get a shelf of covers instead of a list of pages, and open in a full-screen reader that runs the whole publication as one continuous book.

As much as I have blamed likes for the contentification of art today, I hesitate to say that they are useless as someone who scrolls For You quite a bit. That said, I feel like at any given point, artists need financial support, or community, and algorithmic boosts guarantee neither of the two.
