Doctors say that you should eat a balanced diet that includes whole grains and fresh fruits and vegetables. A guy who snorts cocaine off toilet seat seats and doesn’t wipe his ass says you should subsist entirely on sauerkraut and steak. For a busy eaters it can be hard to know who to trust.

To be clear Sunrise Movement, like a lot of other left-wing youth issue movements, has mostly just achieved its actual purpose of channeling all that energy away from the original issue they cared about and on to bashing any Democrat who has any positive feelings for Israel.

Trump has dismantled a hundred years worth of environmental protections and the Sunrise Movement's banner image in August 2026 is a photo of them protesting Kamala Harris.

The more fundamental problem for Paxton is that turning out the people he already has is all he knows. He's basically been carried by politicians more popular than him doing the heavy lifting, and right now he doesn't have that. It's more likely he drags down Abbott than that Abbott drags him over

Richard M. Nixon@dicknixon.bsky.social · 3d ago

Calling Talarico a sissy and so forth never made sense, because it turns out the people Paxton already has. The concern is the middle class, and he looks and acts like a school principal or young pastor, that sort of thing.

It's truly disturbing that the use case the AI industry has settled on is "interacting with your children." These are genuine sociopaths.

The replies have multiple people blaming it on people being scared of needles and terming it "vaccine hesitancy" and THIS IS EXACTLY THE KIND OF DEFERENCE I AM TALKING ABOUT. YOU ARE BEING WAY TOO NICE TO THESE DIPSHITS WHO HAVE NOT BEEN NATURALLY SELECTED OUT FAST ENOUGH.

@hillcat98.bsky.social · 4d ago

the reason why this isn't in the discourse is because about 90% of the people who thought the spring/summer 2020 restrictions were too much are also antivax. and society for some fucking reason is waaaaaaaaay too deferential to the antivax.

Elon Musk is infuriating in his own way but everybody knows at least one person, possibly more, whose lifestyle and explanation of how they can afford said lifestyle doesn’t really add up and you’re pretty sure there’s SOMETHING fraudulent going on there.

Also not everybody gets more angry at elites being corrupt than they do with their neighbors being corrupt. This is taken as a default assumption here, but I don't think it really holds water.

Mobile ordering at McDonald’s would be better if they didn’t insist on holding your food behind the counter and putting no one at the counter to give it to you. What the fuck is this?

It’s because there is an absurd amount of overlap between people who think the Chinese century is imminent and lab leak freaks. The wet market origin actually makes the Chinese government look fuckin’ incompetent and reveals a lot of things about China they’d rather not.

Ben K.@benjaminkabak.com · 6d ago

I don't really understand why the lab leak freaks are so adverse to the wet market origin. Wet markets are pretty gross and inhumane. You don't need to create a lab leak bogeyman to make them bad. The leap from "lab leak" to "intentional lab leak" is frankly insane.

i cannot think of a lower class of person than one who thinks “influencer” is more important than, idk, running HHS. low class, low moral character, contemptible fucking cretins, the lot.

Incredible how in under two decades we’ve gone from Obama running on saving the U.S. auto industry to liberals demanding that cheap Chinese cars be allowed to flood the market for some fucking reason.

to be clear Trump is factually way more likely to reach post-Watergate Nixon levels of approval than he is to get above water again, and it’s because he will do absolutely nothing to get above water again.

i periodically mention this, but he’s got more than two years to go and you should think about what he could plausibly* do to even stop the bleeding, let alone turn this around *as in: is actually plausible that he would do

A nonzero number of “center-left” writers I used to respect have basically said they conceptually liked the idea of DOGE and just hated how it was actually done and, like, when you choose to get in bed with people who want “government efficiency” some of them just wanted to break the government!

Matthew Downhour @matthewdownhour.bsky.social · last wk.

USAID was rather like this. “Yeah we wanted it gone but, responsibly” alas! Once the rock is rolling it’s out of your control
